Battlefield 2

I have never played this game due to my age and owning a console, but was wondering if people still play it now, because I hear a lot of people saying oh I just had the most amazing time in BF2. So I was wondering if there are still quite a few people in multiplayer? and if it is still worth picking up?

especially considering BF3 is coming out soon and I have only played BC2 from the BF series

There's still about 500 servers running (unfortunately a reasonable amount of padding ones included) and still a reasonable amount of life left, of course this will probably dwindle away once BF3 is out.

Our server, HOTW, is still up and running and my community plays most evenings.

If you can find it cheap enough it's worth a bash even if it's just for the experience.

A game that I spent may a hour on.

The last decent large scale fps I can remember.

Bf2 is still played and is still amazing really. There are a few really good servers around that do the better maps, with nice ping and active/semi-active admins.

Be warned BF2 is #HARD#. Be prepared for occasional madly unfair deaths, and for a 1-3 kill death ratio when your starting out. Find the main body of your team and stay just behind them for a few games to get some practice. I don't have ther exact I.P. addresses but google these servers and their official sites will give you them:

Panda Nation (my favourite)
Battlefield Gottland (try the city maps one)
Super@Jalalabad with vehicles.
Rulez bf2 server, (mild mods to take the most annoying things out of the game)

Theres plenty more 64 player servers that do map rotations.

Good ping is 80 OR LESS, ideally under 50

BF2 is fading away but it is still a well-played game today. Popular servers are nearly always full.

If you come on panda nation pay very close attention to the server rules as they are very hot on compliance, although these rules are just to stop vehicle whoring really, also if you see a player called Asian_Poo_Grannies (me) please introduce yourself

I might have to re-visit this game. I'm going to be on my laptop until January but it will properly handle this just fine

BF2 still stands out as my favourite multiplayer gaming experience ever. Hoping BF3 can capture some of the same excitement. BC2 was fun but felt restricted and linear compared with the large open warfare in BF2. Definitely worth a play just to get a feel of how expansive an fps can be.

Still my No.1 at the mo'. Being an "older" player, I prefer the sqaud/tactical play to MW's scoot & shoot.

Really looking forward to BF3 - just hope the new Frostbite engine lives up to expectations.

After spending £500 on a new computer to play "Modern" games, this was the first game i installed as its definately alot better then the COD Games and the BC series of battlefield... Im glad they're going back to the original design of Battlefield (Plus a campaign mode :O) I also have vietnam and 2142 although i've lost the disc for 2142 somehow

Play BF2: Special Forces. It's a much more intense game and has night maps as well, which is always nice. Also play with at least one other person you know, and use voice chat. Lone wolf Battlefield is unrewarding.

I don't know if anyone here is interested, but ZiiP got its BF2 server back online the other day.

Some here may have played on our servers back in the hey-day, others not. I do invite you though to come say hello if you're up for a game.

IP here : https://www.ziip.co.uk/servers/

Excellent, our TS info is there as well if you want to join in on the banter. I'm going to try aim for about 20:00 on the server this evening and will be dragging as many from ZiiP as I can.

I installed this the other night disappointingly i couldn't install the latest patch 1.5 as it said my version was newer which it isn't. I have the original version 1.0 i believe.

So i did the registry trick and tell the machine i had version 1.4 so i could install the 1.50 patch which went fine, but then starting BF2 is flashes back to the desktop.

Strange, i had this problem before so you have to find the video.con file in my profiles and change the line to accept refresh rates but still no joy. Will give it another bash tonight as i love BF2

I had this problem last night as well actually.

Install basic game -> install 1.41 patch -> install 1.5 patch -> install 1.5 hotfix -> Punkbuster update.

I had the black screen on load problem, nothing seemed to be working, resolution, audio, administrator, none of the usual tricks worked. I reinstalled the 1.5 patch and the hotfix and it worked fine then. Thankfully with new components, there is no half hour long waiting time for the patches to initialise!
