Lol, for the windows 7 restart, they should put "when I damn well please" to the options since I always pick 4 hours. Then 4 hours later, I pick 4 hours again.....

Pick the right distro, and you decide when to update.

Slackware, stable, run slackpkg -update once a week, month or less, see some security updates for programs or functions I don't use or disabled anyway, continue work without hassle and get a newer firefox as a bonus.

Even Ubuntu can be set so that it only updates once a week. Nothing's broken so far in over 2 years of use!

Anyway, demotessssssss....

With Linux you can basically get the full range of experiences.
If you're on Ubuntu LTS and stick to Security and Recommended updates, you'll be stuck on outdated software but nothing will ever break.

If, on the other hand, you're a masochist (like me), you'll be working on a rolling distro like Arch Linux, where **** breaks whenever the planets aren't aligned properly. Still love it though!

The only thing that has broken on me, once, was when PS/2 and audio drivers were broken. An update the day later fixed it, though.

Other than that, it runs a crapton more stabler than 7 XP.
