I dont know if im doing anything wrong but ive got my main monitor connected to the 5850 via dvi and ive connected my TV using HDMI so if i need to watch a film i would extend the desktop and watch the film on 1 whilst doing something on the main monitor. Now this setup worked perfectly when i had my GTX 580 but now catalyst see's detects 2 monitors but i only see a pic on the main montior but the TV is always blank and says no signal Is it my card should i change it?
Have you tried the other display setting (two discrete displays)? If I recall correctly, won't extending the desktop on the Catalyst drivers try and show the whole image across two displays and as soon as you play the movie, you only see it on one screen due to scaling? I am not in front of my AMD rig atm so I can't recall the settings.
In the Catalyst control panel, what choices do you see under "Desktop Management", "Creating and Arranging Desktops"?
What connector are you using between the PC and the TV? Is it a straight HDMI to HDMI cable or do you have an adapter on it?
Unfortunately, some TV's don't like anything else but NVIDIA. For example my LG is not detected by ATI or Intel, but NVIDIA works without any issues.
No, i don't. LG 42LC3R, doesn't work with HD5870 or the IGP in 2500K, works with all NVIDIA cards (7300LE, GT240, GTS250, GT430, GTX570) i tested. The only thing i needed to customize is to use custom EDID file for the native resolution - the original EDID says 1080p resolution, while my TV is only HD ready = 1366x768. With ATI and Intel, the display wasn't even detected, it looked like there was nothing on the other side of the cable. Those trying to blame the cable - i took the cable out from 5870 HDMI connector, put it in GT240/GT430/GTX570 HDMI connector and voila, i got picture.
That has nothing to do with the fact that the card is unable to send the display data to the TV... Extending or duplicating, it is the same from a hardware perspective, the difference is only in what software displays.
