I would like to get Speedfan to run when I start my computer, however I cannot seem to get this to work. I have added a shortcut to the startup folder (with administrator priviledges), I have tried creating a scheduled task but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

I think you need to click start, type msconfig and then click on the start up tab and it should show speedfan if you have created a shortcut in the start up folder? Then you can click it to run on start up.

I think.... I would try it for you but I am on a mac right now :wallbash:

Under startup in msconfig it is ticked but doesn't start. I think it is something to do with the administrator privileges.

Tried it and still no luck, does the user account control pop-up when you start it manually?

Strange, no ive turned user account off.

I use it all the time, as i send its info to my matrix orbital display

i will look at my settings ans see what you may of missed.

In config i have start minimised selected,

    C: programdata/microsoft/windows/startmenu/programs/startup

Got mine in the above tree.

Just drag a shortcut into your "startup" folder in the star menu.

EDIT: Need to read.... Something is preventing it from starting up then. I have lots of programs that I start by putting a shortcut in the "Startup" folder with no issues.

ok so I guess it's the user account control then, I'd rather not turn it off as its been built for my brother to take to uni. I can't beleive there isn't an exceptions list or something for UAC to individually select programs. It just seems like on or off - kinda deafting the point of it in the first place.

I doubt it's UAC either when i had programs in startup that required authorisation it would just pop up the prompt as soon as the system booted.

In another forum, someone suggested running a task on boot that launches it.

Link to steps. Haven't read all the steps but the guy in the forum said it worked for him when he tried it so might be worth a go.

EDIT: Just did it myself and it worked. Hopefully it does for you as well. Heads up: When you get to the "triggers" section, click the drop down and select "at start up" or "at logon" depending on what you want to do, this will mean it starts whenever the computer is turned on.

Try this: Call it setup.exe and remake the shortcut to the start menu Startup folder.
Although you should get a uac dialog box every-time you log-in.

What happens is that Windows automatically elevates a program, if it's called setup.exe, to support pre-Vista setups.

Thanks, finally got it to work (and not asking for permission each time) using the task schedule at logon.

    As usual Bit-Tech triumphs again!
