Another i7 2600K or wait for Amd FX8150
Wanting to get another i7 2600K next week, but i here good things about the up-coming Bulldozer. Anyone have any indication of how it will do with folding being a true 8core cpu?
i7 2600K - $315 Asus Maximus Gene-Z - $200 or FX8150 - $250 Gigabyte 990FX UD-7 - $250 So initially, it will basically be more or less the same in price. Performance wise???

Sailing dangerously close to breaking lots of NDAs and agreements I have with Intel and AMD, I'd strongly suggest waiting a little more time before building another folding rig...

![]() Now, let's widely speculate on what Lizard is getting at! And how a lot of us probably wish we had the money to buy a new folding rig or two soon

Ah yes, I remember reading that date, and I remember not being optimistic about it.

If it's not mid-October, it will definitely be late November. AMD won't delay it 'till 2012. Worst case scenario in my opinion is: they make a launch 'on paper' by the end of the year, with stock availabe on Q1-2012.

I'm sure Ivy Bridge will return good ppd, but i'm sure the cost of building an Ivy bridge system will also be high, unlike the 2600k and the per watt required.

![]() Current SB mobos should only require a bios update to run Ivy Bridge so that should reduce the cost of upgrading (for once).

One_box, your right just looked it up again, ivy brigde will be using the same pin count. I had it in my head that ivy bridge will only use the lga 2011 and has more pins than the 1155. Looks like i need to catch up on my reading. Any idea when the ivy bridge will appear? I guess there is rrally no point in also getting the 2700k for my second rig when its out. I'm sure the ivy bridge will be better. I just hope they come out with decent prices.

I think the latest guess is about March - April'12.
If you can wait till then, the water will be a little less muddy. SB, IB, Bulldozer or SB-E which one will it be

I'm now set on adding another 2600k to the cause, just seen the recent reviews of the BD, and there not pretty.
I was hoping that this build will he a 24/7 folding machine. I will try to have as less as possible hardware that generates heat, basically it will only be mainboard (m atx) set on the asus maximus iv gene-z, processor, ssd drive. Question: if on air i see temps of ave 65-70, with ocassional highs on 75, will i still be able to run it smoothly 24/7 without problems and without the temps shortening the life of it?

If you're not in a hurry to build the machine, I would wait for the 27000K to be released. It's rumoured to be due in the next few weeks.

Agreed ... if its just for folding I would use the onboard graphics, this will keep your power consumption and heat down.
Your temps seem high for a 2600K @ 4.4GHz (mine is about 10DegC less) but I don't have a GTX 580 beavering away. I would reduce GPU folding when you have your new rig up to save on your leccy bill, I'm sure your current rig temps will come down then (I wouldn't want to run above 70DegC). Good luck and keep us updated.
