Question on Hazard Perception on Driving Test?
Hey all,
Am taking my driving theory test tomorrow afternoon, and have been doing some revising with one of those programs and also the usual stuff of reading the highway code etc. Not too worried about the written test as most of it is common sense, and I've revised well on the difficult stuff (remembering braking distances etc.). My question is, in the hazard perception portion of the test, are the resolution of the interactive clips really as bad as the ones I've seen? I found it hard to see things early on for the full 5 marks as they are a pixelated blur on my screen! Any other tips are also appreciated!

I took mine about 18 months ago now, the clips were fine from what I can remember. Not exactly DVD quality, but good enough.
Just make sure you know your stopping distance formulae and the obscure questions (tram signs and stuff) and you'll be fine |

There's a formulae?!?
Have done the Traffic Signs pdf, so should be fine.

I read the Highway Code through once and did a couple of hazard perception DVDs and passed easily.
My suggestion: click twice for each potential hazard you see. Don't go mental obviously but just make sure it registers your input. I've done it twice now (car and motorbike) and I did better the second time so practice makes perfect. Also, as you say, the resolution is not the most amazing.

I passed it without difficulty 7 years ago, but going back and trying to complete one of those DVD tests I nearly failed because I was too paranoid about everything - my experience on the road has made me too wary about potential hazards.

did my theory test about 6 years ago (i feel old). looked through highway code and just went for it. 1 question wrong and a few points off from hazard test.
it's mostly common sense. image is clear enough, not clear by today's standard, but clearer than web streaming. more than enough to identify the hazards. anticipation is key, see a crossroad ahead, prepare for a car try to cut infront of you; see that roll of parked cars, look for child's feet prepare for a children to run across; see that bus, look for bus stops and prepare to overtake. Edit: don't feel old Krikkit is older

Yeah I similarly click too much, I think everything is a potential hazard.
Am I right in thinking that many clicks with a large gap in between is OK, and that it's many clicks in small time windows that cause 0 points for the clip?

I failed one clip by clicking too much. There were large gaps between them, but still got 0 for it. Be careful how crazy you go, but obviously make sure the click has registered..

Yea on my practice I could kinda see what was going to be a hazard and clicked on it too soon which is annoying (and something I would debate in the test...).

Its a hazard perception, not click when it happens, if you can see if its a hazard, click, then click at it and then just after, but not quickly, make sure there's a pause between. I wouldn't worry too much, I went into it havng done 1 mock perception test, and 2 mock theory. Hadn't even read the highway code.

Been doing some more practice tests last night, I like EvilMerc's advice on 2 clicks, as in reviewing them I did hit a couple too early.
Got my theory test at 3:30pm today, so fingers crossed!

You won't see this in time because you,re busy revising (right!!?)
But just use your noodle sounds common sense but people overthink hazard perception test and click like maniacs at anything that could lead to a hazard "That kid could slip a 5 metres into the road" My friend panicked and practically clicked evertime he saw a car and or people.... Just take a breathe before you start and just stay aware of your surroundings Let us know how you get on!

Smashed it.
49/50 for the written/question part, and 49 on the Hazard bit (not sure how much it is out of). It broke down the score a bit, and I really think the system is flawed as I did the 2 click method mentioned above but think I clicked it just before the hazard became apparent and then a bit too late. I think it's a case of me treating it like a computer game, and pre-empting what I know will be the hazard instead of waiting for it to pop out and almost kill me. Ah well, on to the practical now! Thanks again all.

I know without a doubt in my mind that I saw every hazard and clicked them, I just think I was too eager.
Meh I passed so who cares! No practicals till January at the moment though which is a bugger. Just need to find a car to buy now...

Brace yourself for practical possibly the most uncomfortable expirience of my life. You may get a nice one in which case it will be an ok expirience

January's pretty crazy, have you had a look round other test centres in the area? I picked up a cancellation in an adjacent test area within 2 weeks of passing my theory.

Not massively wanting to do my test at another centre, as this unassisted driving thing could come a cropper if I don't know the area.
Can keep my ear to the ground for cancellations at my local one though...
