I rested the maple box on a piece of 10mm plate and it just didn't look too flash. But putting the box back next to the Jarrah one made me think about a jarrah base. Hmmmm...............

So I made one up.





I marked out and started to make the lower vent.........................





But then thought I should first make the connecting piece. This is from 12mm bar.







It will look good after it is polished, or maybe anodised.



But there is still more drilling, tapping and counter boring to do.





Surprisingly it''s very stable. But there is still more weight to be added so this may change. If it becomes 'wonky' then a thicker connector will be made.



Now just the front and back pieces need to be made.

Oh that looks sweet, fantastic looking combination brought a big cheesy grin to my face that final shot & that connector piece looks brilliantly precise, I'd expect it to still be stable once you get it loaded with the hardware .

I was considering buying a chop saw but seeing you manage perfectly fine with the trusty old hacksaw for so many bits you do I should just buy a new hacksaw & maybe a fresh set of files & develop more patience, my last broke from using too much force through a lack of patience .

I'm still amazed at how perfect your cuts/work in general is. That connector piece is a perfect example of what I mean .

At first I didn't think maple was a good choice, but combined with that base made of jarrah and it's a whole different story.

A drop saw is very useful for many things but not for small parts. If I were you, I'd still buy one. And thanks.

Thank you. Yeah those curves are very useful. Also have a flexible curve and the odd bit of thin alu bar is nice for making curves as well.

I had enough time to make the rear mounting plate today.

Measured and cut from 3mm plate.



When it was filed down and squared, it was drilled and fitted to the chassis. You can see that the mounting plate is screwed through the chassis into the corner support blocks.







Then the various openings can be accurately marked up and cut.







I still haven't worked out how this will be fitted to the box (either directly to the wood or via some mounting brackets), but it looks OK.







And every thousand or so photos I fluke a really pleasing one.
