Ok so upped it to 4.5ghz and here's the issues:
So while running Intelburn I've noticed the speeds from 1-10 are all random. Why is this? I've seen loads of posts about getting down the voltage to 1.32 and below and mine doesn't even look at going under 1.37.. Any reason as to why this maybe? The system feels sluggish compared to the 4.4ghz Overclock I did previously. While I appreciate 0.1ghz is nothing it shouldn't feel worse? Any help on these questions would be great. |

I wouldn't advise going to past 1.4 volts without good cooling. As for sluggish system, not sure what that is. How are your temps? Could it be overheating and hitting the thermal throttle which lowers speed. Also noticed that you are using new BIOS, may be buggy? Edit: I can't see new bios on the website. Are you sure your not using 1E which is buggy. Better using 1D. I tried 1E and it did wierd things like reduce my overclock from 4.6Ghz to 4.2Ghz when I put it under load.

General OC question:
While I'm aware that keeping your eye on temperatures is probably the most important thing to monitor when OCing, don't you also have to mind if voltages are outside the acceptable ranges? For instance, YEHBABY said not to go above 1.4 V without good cooling. So if I believe I have good cooling (which I do) and I set it it above 1.4 V, would the only thing I should worry about be heat? Shouldn't I also be worried that maybe other voltages might be dropping below normal ranges? Or is that not an issue? |

I've actually dropped my overclock down to 4.4ghz and got it down to 1.32V. Seems to be a lot more responsive then before and also showing higher marks in Cinebench.
I'm getting a slight issue with Prime95 and 1 core not actually going through the tests like its stuck on the first one. Any reason why? I'm using 1.0F. It's not dropping down when under load now at all. temps only peak at 65C on Intelburn on High for 10 runs. So pretty decent. |

I also dropped down to 4.4GHz at 1.34v with max temps around 60C. I just seemed to get a black hole at 4.5GHz - one core would always fail under Prime95 and I was starting to push the vcore too high for my liking. After much messing around decided I couldn't be arsed solving it for 100MHz so backed it off and have been perfectly stable since.
Try pushing your vcore up slightly and see if that 4th core will complete.

ResCyn can you post your Bios settings please.
Gone up to 1.35V and still nothing on 4th core now.

Quick information, the 1.F0 BIOS is buggy as well, caused random shutdowns on my system and constant lockups as well as only being bootable with 2 filled dimm slots.

Download BIOS from MSi website. Unzip to flashdrive. Plug in flashdrive. Get to the UEFI BIOS. Utilities>M-Flash Follow instructions. Unplug flashdrive so it doesn't try and boot from it when it restarts. Enjoy newly stable system.

Yep downgrade to bios 1D.
My system nice and stable with that.

Weirdly enough at 4.4ghz and current settings I've done 30 Maximum Intelburn tests. Prime95 still doesn't run with all cores though.. strange.

Ok so after considering the options and looking to overclock slightly higher then 4.4ghz I've resorted back to 1D. Easiest way, for future reference is to unzip and install via BIOS. The MSI feature doesn't work. So my next question is how do I get up to 4.7ghz stable I'm currently running 4.5ghz fine at 1.36V

Try this Overclocking guide. It is for the GD55, but is still relevant to your GD53. The settings show you how to hit 4.7Ghz. But obviously this depends on your CPU. Link: http://www.overclock.net/t/963798/ms...w-and-oc-guide It gives screenshots which are easy to follow. I tried several guides and found this the best one.

My Prime95 doesn't seem to work fully on all 4 cores yet I can do 20 runs on Maximum on Intelburn. Would you classify that as stable? If so can I use Intelburn for my testing and not Prime95?

I bought the magazine today and have just gone through the settings to overclock my i5 2500k. Now previously I tried some settings i found in a video guide. Whilst i ddi hit 5ghz at one point I got scared and dropped everything back to normal.
Now it seems my system doesn't like 1.3vcore or 1.35 for 4.5ghz. it was happy with 1.3vcore for 4ghz though. ![]() I BSOD'd at 1.3vcore for 4.5ghz and failed to boot at 1.35vcore. I am back at stock now and I think i lost out on the cpu lottery. But to be honest I don't need to overclock at all. And whilst I'm still running on air I wont run any overclock for a long period of time. Might reapply the overclock and bench my system.
