Shame Kimi couldn't snatch the victory - another brilliant race though. Bad day at McLaren!

Gutted for Button's puncture and retirement.

Very pleased with the season so far, however. Absolutely unpredictable. Great to see the Iceman with a better comeback than certain others *cough*MSC*cough* and a Frenchman on the podium for the first time in... a decade? More?

Eugh, what a bad day for McLaren. Great day for Lotus / Renault though - good to see them on the podium!

Vettel on pole, Vettel won, Vettel leading the championship. Yawn! I hope this isn't the start of them dominating again...

Rosberg should have his result annulled for forcing Alonso and Hamilton off the race-track, plus a big fine, I think.

Other than that, great race spoilt by piss-poor BBC coverage. There was so much action that squashing it into less than 60 minutes really didn't justice. There was one moment where they cut about 10 laps out, including a radio message from Jenson Button, and suddenly they were at pit-stops. The only reason I know there was JB radio message was that David Coulthard tried to explain something about the message.

I really need to get Sky...

And another thing, how come so little was made of Kovaleinen getting into Q2 on Saturday. I think that's the first time one of the newer teams has got out of Q3 (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I think it's blooming amazing that there's so little gap between Caterham and everyone else that people are having to use option tyres to get out of Q3.

It's not the gap to Caterham that's forcing the likes of Mercedes, Lotus and Ferrari to use the faster tire in Q1, it's the gap to the incredibly strong mid-field. Everyone's fighting not to be behind the Caterham, but to not be the first "big name" out in 17th.

Heikki did a brilliant job this weekend in quali no doubt (pulling an extra 1.4s from the option over the prime), but the only reason he knocked Schumacher out was because Schumacher couldn't get another run due to a broken DRS... though even if he did it would have still meant one of the McLaren's would have went out (as they also didn't use the option in Q1).

Mikee has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
He qualified 15th in Spain last season and 17th in Britain and I'm sure he's made Q2 a few other times as well.

Easily the best driver amongst the newer teams.

At no point was any part of Alonso's car alongside Nico's. Nico had every right to take the line that he did and if Alonso didn't want to run off the track then all he had to do was ease off the pedal a little.
The same is true of Hamilton's overtake off the track. He followed Nico out of the corner and was heading off the track as he came alongside. He was far too aggressive out of the corner and went off as a result.

As it stands, the stewards have decided not to penalise him at all as he didn't do anything wrong (source).

I now understand a bit better because of the steward's explanation, but I still don't understand why hamilton was allowed to go up a place since he went off track during the manoeuvre....

Can anyone explain it?

Far from not doing anything wrong, the BBC have rightly quoted the rule that Rosberg broke in both incidents:

Quote:
Article 10.4 of the F1 sporting regulations says: "Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.
When Hamilton was trying to pass him, Rosberg moved so far to the right that Hamilton had to go beyond the edge of the track so as not to be hit. In the Alonso incident, Rosberg's own right wheels were off the track, in an attempt to block an overtake.

You guys think the BBC coverage is bad? We get ESPN/Star Asia, with Steve "I'm a giant knobhead" Slater. Half the commentary is spent with Karun correcting Slater and the other half is Slater being excited and WRONG. Ugh.

And I'm with Sp4nky and anyone else who thinks Rosberg was way too aggressive defending down that straight. Perhaps a slap on the wrist is fine in this case, but any further transgressions shouldn't just be waved away.

Best guess: they knew Rosberg was being a d**k, so they let Hamilton get away with it

Because as it was said "The stewards looked into the matter and decided that because Rosberg had moved to the right to defend his position in a 'constant and continuous straight line manner' and because Hamilton was not alongside Rosberg as he began that move that the German did nothing wrong." - if Hamilton was not alongside Rosberg, then he didn't overtake him outside the track. He did it when he returned to it. So no penalty.

Aha, now that makes more sense. How far up does one have to be to qualify as "alongside" though? And if one car is accelerating up the side, he may not look like he's all the way alongside the other car, but is carrying enough speed that defending to the very edge of the track would necessarily mean that he'd be forced off.

Anyway, I understand why he wasn't punished, and it's going to be grey enough to be a matter of opinion from here on out.
