Edit; Only by 11 points, though. That's a hell of a surprise.

Interesting to see how it stacks up. http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench.../531501/531002

I don't actually feel so bad about Bulldozer after seeing that. 200mhz clock difference and I'm slightly ahead on the CPU side.
I've over clocked my mem slightly to 1666Mhz, it's worth a few extra points.

Geekbench must love multicore/multithread CPUs, if my 920 @4GHz can top a 2500k @ 4.5GHz.

Unless it's the triple channel memory that's helping. I may pull a stick and run it again.

Well several restarts later and one BSOD I have decided to not overclock my system again for awhile. Might need to double check the settings I have in place for the OC. I used a video guide I found for i5 2500k to overclock to 4.5. I got it to run a 5Ghz sometime ago but it wont do it now. My system hanged or I thought it did and then after restart I got a BSOD. Now back to normal.

Four overheats and a blue screen later.

http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/531518

4.825Ghz. 5Ghz required too much voltage, it got too hot. I was pushing 59.5 degrees as is. (250x 19.5 1.575V)

At least this board is intelligent when it Overheats. Spins all the fans to full and kills power to everything else. I'm half amazed the motherboard speaker doesn't yell out "COOL THE F#CK DOWN!" during this.

OK, you made me do it. I spent £8 and registered so I can run both tests for a comparison

CPU (i7-2700K) @ 5 GHz
RAM (8 GB DDR3) @ 2133 MHz

32-bit score 15335 http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/531512
64-bit score 21434 http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/531514

And a screenie to show cpu-z display when running the 64-bit test:

If you register; I will kill you. Or just force you to run the 32bit only benchmarks when comparing with my FX8120. I don't have £8 spare to throw at Geekbench.

For what it's worth i wouldn't bother, better to find a bench mark that runs 64 bit as standard.

True. After having just overheated my processor four times within ten minutes, however, i'm not going to be benchmarking for a while.

Thermal Cut out on the FX series is 75 - 80 degrees, BTW. They heat up incredibly fast, my Archon wasn't even warm when it overheated.

Actually, the biggest differences are in the 64-bit instructions, not having access to all the memory. The whole of the memory is not tested, only the bandwidth/performance, so having access to all of it for a test means nothing.

You will see from the two sets of results, the improvements are:

Processor Integer Performance: +18%
Processor floating point performance: +70%
Memory performance: +18%
Memory bandwidth performance: +4%
__________
Overall performance gain: +40%

So, the memory performance scales at a similar rate to the processsor integer performance, which is nothing to do with how much memory is visible. It relates to the excution of the instructions (and how well the memory performs when running those instructions). The minimal increase in memory bandwidth performance is not enough to say that having all memory available to tests provides a boost in itself.. The biggest difference is in the floating point tests, which is much as I would expect.

Then I'll have to buy it to take the AMD top slot back and so it goes on.

Like they say, an eye for an eye and in the end the whole world goes blind.

But the way I see see it. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Oh well nurse will be round with dinner and my medication soon.

Forget PCMark7. It measures everything. Just been looking at results, and people with slower CPUs and memory and GPUs are scoring higher due to SSDs and faster broadband connections. It measures even web browsing speed, loading times, image transfer to disk rates... all sorts.

Too variable.

£8 for a benchmark. Urm, no thanks, rather buy a couple of cheap Steam games.

It's going to feel like xmas day tomorrow for me and a few others

Is it not about time bit-tech created a newer benchmark, to keep us on our toes?
