The Halfords Pro stuff comes with a lifetime warranty, take any of it back to their store in un-perfect condition and they'll give you a new one (except the ratchet, but lots of stores will just replace it anyway). Good set to start with, get a few specialist sockets as you go (and a torque wrench!) and you'll be winning.

Have had a set for year, works out as very durable.

If you want top notch, Hazet or Stahlwille

Power tools...depends on where you live, in europe Hilti, Festool, Makita and maybe Bosch professional (Blue, not the green stuff)

Knipex for me, but if that's too expensive then the professionals range from Halfords will do a good job.
