Spam?

Hi

A while back I received an email from "Custom PC" a brand I've never registered with, I remember "unsubscribing" then (A strange term as I never subscribed). Today I've received another bit of "spam" marketing, I guess from a "Partner"

Quote:
I hope you're well and that you've had a good start to the year.
I thought you'd like to be one of the first to receive a copy of our latest report; Get Ahead In The Cloud.
It reveals how companies are using cloud technology to grow faster and give themselves a competitive advantage. We have included real life examples of what these companies are doing differently to get ahead of the competition. I hope you find it interesting.
This is a two part report and you can download Part 1 immediately and register to receive Part 2 as soon as it is available.
If you would like any more information please give me a call on 0800 458 4545 or drop me an email and I will be happy to help.
Many thanks,
Mia

How did my email get included in the list? I believe my only dealings with custom PC have been through having a BT forum login and I have NEVER ticked anything to say I was "prepared to receive emails from Dennis Publishing (UK) Ltd and our partners" as the email claims.

How do I check what Dennis has me "subscribed" to?

Have you ever entered a competition on the site? I'm not certain but this might have landed you on a list somewhere...

I'm sure it's innocuous, I just want to check whether I'm still on any hidden lists.

Spam is as spam does. Your email may have been harvested anywhere --even from less cautious friends' address books. It may not necessarily have anything to do with Custom PC.

I received the very same email, and it's not the first time to get spam like this from a Dennis partner.

In my case it's most likely due to competitions (not making that mistake again).

Strange one.

You should only get emails if you're on the bit-tech third party list - to get on that list you have to give us your details at some point and indicate that you're happy for us to use them. This could be through a subscription or a competition.

If you've unsubscribed, it shouldn't happen again. If it does, let us know.

Just got another one of these. Gmail didn't catch it as spam, but I set up a filter to redirect these to a junk folder after the last one I got.

Registered in England. Number 384 5616. Please consider the environment, do you really need to print this email?

This email has been sent to you by Dennis Publishing (UK) Ltd because when registering with our brand, Custom PC, you agreed that you were prepared to receive emails from Dennis Publishing (UK) Ltd and our partners.

This email is a paid advertisement from one of our partners which we believe will be of interest to you, not because we endorse the 3rd party company or product. If you do not wish to receive such emails in the future you can unsubscribe by clicking here

Registered address: Dennis Publishing Ltd, 30 Cleveland St, London W1T 4JD.
Registered in England with Company Number: 1138891
The 'xxxxxxxx' in the original email is my actual name and the address it was sent to is an address I set up solely for use on sites that I don't trust to not spam me, such as Dennis Publishing. I clicked to unsubscribe in the previous one of these that I got, but lo and behold here's another.

I'm about to set up a filter in gmail to immediately delete anything with "Dennis Publishing" or "CustomPC" anywhere in the email.

Dennis really need to smarten up when it comes to this thing. I can say with absolute certainty that I never left a box ticked to allow this kind of communication when signing up for competitions on bit-tech before; so I can only assume that either this is a mistake or there was a "we will spam you" clause in the terms & conditions somewhere.
I wouldn't mind if the unsubscribe part actually worked!

Are these genuinely from Dennis (or a Dennis-related third party), or are they just spam from a '4th party' so to speak?
