Hotmail Blocked
Hi all,
Have a rather tricky issue with my Windows Live and Hotmail account. It would appear that my hotmail account has been hacked or spoofed. I have been spamming according to the account blocked message. The problems that I have is that the code needed, has been sent to a defunct email addy which is unrecoverable by normal means. The second issue is that there does not appear to be an easy route through to the Hotmail team over this. I rang a certified MS helpdesk number, but they wanted to enact a remote log in. Has anybody else managed to get this solved, or as I suspect, the account is now dead? |

I had the same issue once. If you go to recover password there should be an option where you say you don't use the other account anymore. You can then post in their forums and an admin will review it and if they deem you to be who you say you are, you get your account back.
This method does require a second working email address as they send a reset link to that account for your blocked account. It took me about a week to get it done.

Nice one and thanks
I have reactivated the old addy as my primary. Hopefully without any certificate issues, the username part maybe ok. However, I will follow your advice and have a go.

The main hotmail server was hacked into some 3-4 years ago and thousands of accounts were cloned and have been sending out viruses to all the contacts on those accounts,My account was one of those Cloned and is now blocked, that may be your problem Tim I would check with your friends to see if any of them have received any mail from your account with chinese writing in if they have its likely your account was cloned

Thanks for the info. As far as I know so far, no contacts have received anything, I hope anyway.

Finally sorted. Reactivating a defunct account did the trick and all for one critical email. What legends Microsoft are!

Right, I'll get straight to the point. Hotmail got hacked (See GOUDG post), got blocked and the reactivation code could only be sent to a defunct email addy. Had to get the old addy in place as my primary (took 35 minutes, quite quick realy) and the old certification updated. Got code, Vista mail client synched, Hotmail working. Now here is the thing, any contact would be mailed spam.
If you use Hotmail, I recommend you change your password now and make fully sure that the secondary contact details are correct. Mine were not and I could have paid heavily for it. We are all in the Digital World now, please take care with your password details and strength. In addition to this, make sure you rotate and change in minor increments to all passwords, but don't get too confident in your passwrords being safe or in a safe. The Digital Bank is awash with Cowards and Thiefs. |
