I agree with that statement about the 560M but then people always see the more powerful versions and want more, want the best, understandably with the costs involved, and many saw the 560M as the bottom of the 'true' gaming GFX cards available.

I think this really hurt Asus' sales on this laptop as I was reading around when I was looking to by one and this was the number one complaint and reason that people went for Sager/Clevo models. To be honest it was the reason that I didn't pull the trigger on one. I'm sure the 560M would have been fine I'm sure but there was always the 570M available on other laptops for not much more, sometimes less which, for those looking for a gaming laptop, is a very big factor, more so than price.

This was made worse by the fact that by not going with ASUS I would miss out on the standard matte screen (a must for me) and the global warranty (also a must). I really wanted the G74 and not a Sager/Clevo but I also really wanted a 570M. In the end I just decided to upgrade my desktop instead and ship that to Brazil.

I really believe that with a 570M ASUS would have killed that market, even if it pushed the price up $100. The cooling could handle it easily too.

Any insight as to why ASUS went with the "bottom" version of the 'true' mobile gaming cards and not the middle one?
It's not all about price and spec though; it's also design and quality. How many Sager and Clevo's have soft touch wrist areas, brushed aluminium bracing on the keyboards and the same 3-5 degree keyboard ergonomics?

I do agree to some extent though we should opt for the 675M and 570M, but I'm not sure why it wasn't and isn't still an option.

EDIT: Doesn't seem many G55s are available yet. I'll try to ask when to expect them.

This is exactly my point and why I wanted the G74 and not a Sager/Clevo. You forgot to add the backlit keyboard too.

It had everything I wanted but at the price point (1200-1500 pounds is a big investment) I was thinking it needed to last a long time (3-5 years). I couldn't stop thinking that with the advancement of games a 570M would have provided better long term value in terms of potential usability for it's primary purpose, games.

Oh and to the original poster.

xoticpc.com do ship to the UK but you have to account for the 20% VAT (I think) and delivery but when I was looking it still worked out cheaper than buying in the UK.

Scan do a G53, but I think you may regret not going for one of the 17" versions. Wait a couple of weeks and look again here.

But the price hike of a 570M over 560M would require 'savings' elsewhere. The problem is the general public are blissfully unaware how much mobile GPUs cooosttt$$$$$ (that's more an observation than a rant).

I do - I really do - wish we'd opt for something faster, then I wouldn't have to hear the same from just about everyone, except for the G team who think the complete opposite and want to make it thinner thinner thinner thinner. They are mutually exclusive.

Having used the G55, don't get the G53 - the two evolution jump makes a huge diff.
