HELP! - Remove EK Nickel plating from copper?
Ok, I have a pair of EK FC-470 blocks, One is the older block with the shitty nickel plating on it, the other is copper.
I also have a nickel backplate as well as the black one.
All bought second hand and outside of warranty.

I would like to remove the nickel from the block, down to its original copper and remove the nickel from the backplate to paint it the same as the black one...phew.

Apart from these being the horrible EK gash nickel plating, Does anyone know how I can strip them at home, easily.

I have searched the net and there are many references to chemicals which I'm not really qualified to be breating in

Personally I'd go with a weak)ish) Hyrdochloric Acid. I use 30% Hydrochloric acid & Hydrogen Peroxide (mixed 1 part acid 2 parts peroxide) for PCB etching. Not too dangerous if you work sensibly, wear nitryl gloves and glasses.

I've also quickly googled it and given i've used Hydrochloric acid before I would say its home safe, you just need to work steady and safely, respecting the dangers at all times.

The only issue I can forsee is it would also eat the copper so you would have to take care with the time its subjected to the solutions and pitting may be a factor - also even removal of the nickel as areas removed quicker than others would expose the copper for longer - Not sure I'd try unless it was something I didn't care too much around messing up.

I managed to get a second copper block, And now have two plexi tops for them.
So i'm giving up on the nickel ones.
