XFX HD6870 with 'The Mod' (Antec 620)
Hi all, some of you may have seen my H50 + 4890 Mod earlier, (all images clickable, by the way)
In this thread, I'm going to show my process in sticking an Antec Kuhler 620 on my XFX HD6870 DD-Cooling. It looks like this: ![]() temps weren't too bad, with Idles of about 47C, and topping out during gaming with 67-70C in my room, which is ambient of about 28C. I decided to use the Kuhler for its low profile pump, and I am waiting on a bracket from Dwood and some copper heatsinks, but I'm impatient so tried the Zip tie method again. The shroud for the card has a couple of fans, and I noticed it had some good clearance, so went about this mod in a way that would let me mount the shroud as well as the cooler, and use at least one of the stock fan to cool the memory/VRMS. I think the result is pretty good. So TIM cleaned off (ooh, shiny): ![]() and shroud separated from the heatsink (notice the fans are attached to the shroud, very helpful): ![]() ![]() So out come the clippers after removing the fan: ![]() ![]() Et Voila, now it fits over the pump: ![]() Now, time to Zip tie the pump: ![]() (had to join 2 together as wasnt long enough): ![]() then attached 4 smaller ties to the large one round the pump: ![]() Slip them in the gpu heatsink mounting holes: ![]() and then slip another tie over the ends, pull it finger tight, then cut off the excess. The finished card: ![]() and mounted in the system (can you tell I like black?): ![]() ![]() Temps are OK. As I said, I'm waiting on Dwoods bracket that will drop the temps, but with a single fan in Pull config on the Antec I have an ambient of 28C, idle of 37C and the card tops out at 50C. So, I'm happy with that, and I think it looks great too.= |
