Project: Mirage 3000 (completed)
Hello everyone ! My goal is to make a jet-fighter themed mod based on a Cooler Master Elite RC-342.


The unmodified case and the current state of the mod (updated regularly).


Two inspiration pictures of the french jet-fighter "Mirage 2000".

The main body will be two shades of gray. With black and yellow stripes for the fans grills and several markings (warnings, cockade of the French Air Force, ...). The front faceplate will get multiple switches to remind a jet-figter dashboard.


The Cooler Master case and the Akasa fan controller.

Faceplate will feature, among few other things, an Akasa fan controller with a green on black VFD display, a red "Military Fighter Pilot" toggle switch for power (linked to a key switch) and an anti-vandal resistant switch with cover for reset.

Summary

(1) - Front faceplate (plexy and power switch)
(2) - Front faceplate (switches and leds)
(3) - Front faceplate (first layer of paint)
(4) - DVD player, fan controller and front fan grill
(5) - Painting case & fan controller
(6) - Painting side panels
(7) - Assembling time

Front faceplate (plexy and power switch)


Stripping the faceplate.


Cutting out the part with usb/line-out/mic holes, power and reset buttons. I'm keeping the usb/line-out/mic part for later use.
Cutting a plexy part to fill the void and fixing it with hex socket screws.


Power switch will be this "Military Fighter Pilot" switch.

More holes for more buttons (power, reset, key to allow power switch, three leds for power, two leds for hdd, two switches to turn on/off the leds).

Painting large darker areas for jet-fighter camo style.


Preparation for painting.


Not quite pleased with the result : "special curve" tape don't like heavy curve and many drips, will have to touch up with a brush.


With blue-white-red paint and new buttons, fan controller is finished.

Assembling time


Redo of the curves with better tape masking.


Time to assemble all the pieces !
Adding round headed screws next to fans to match the colors of fan controller buttons.
Found a "Dassault Aviation" keychain "Remove before flight".
