If an overclocked 650Ti could trade blows with a 7850 at stock it would be a very good budget card but its a fair way off the mark. I cant see anyone recommending this card, surly for the tiny bit extra a punter might aswell go for a 7850?

Absolutely. We're getting a 7850 1GB in for testing asap too, but it should offer 7850 perf at 1,920 x 1,080 for even less (around 135).

Indeed.

I wonder if Nvidia had stuck to the 192bit memory interface they could of had HD7850 performance and thus charged HD7850 money?

As it stands this card really looks it offers nothing for its price point. You may as well stump up the small amount extra to get a 1GB HD7850.

At the very least this is what the GT(X-LOL)650 should have been.

The problem is, IMHO, that AMD and NVidia produce too many different card.

They should return to something similar to the geforce 2 series family : "MX version" for entry level card, and then 2 or 3 card at maximum for performance range (TI, GTS and Ultra).

It's really confusing, especialy with the previous gen still on store (when, for example an HD 6870 was slower than an HD5870).

Seems low end cards are finally starting to catch my venerable gtx460. All told this card is pretty disappointing at it's current price.

At 1,920 x 1,080, the superior HD 7850 2GB performs on average 20 per cent better, but can be found for the same price now
Quote:
UK Price (as reviewed): MSRP 120 (inc. VAT)
Followed the link in the article and the 7850 is 149.74??

So actually the 7850 performs 20% better for 20% more cost (using the model, prices and links supplied in the article)

Still think if your totally commited to pc gaming scene, saving that cash for one of the higher end cards would be better served, 1 upgrade every 2-3 years beats 1 upgrade a year surely.

High end cards last longer. Still happily using my 3yo HD5870. Will change it in 2013, when HD8000 is out

There's no mention of SLI? The other GK106 (GTX660) has 2-way support. Has it been kept for this one also?

Depends really, I usually spend about £140-160 on a graphics card updating yearly or thereabouts based on best price per pixel (bang for buck) and I get a good return on the cards price on ebay.

With a more expensive card you have a greater initial expense a longer card turn around (warranty expiration? ) and a greater loss at resale.

On the plus side to coin a phrase yes it can play crysis.

And as an example last graphics card I bought was a sapphire HD 5850 xtreme as reviewed by bit-techhttp://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/gra...e-1gb-review/1 for £100 on the day this article was published. Only recently has the ebay sold the item for less than I bought it...and I really want to try crossfire!

(looks at photos in review)
Can't see an SLI connector on either card.

Ignore me, I thought I was responding to the 650 article not the Ti one

Although even if these cards did support SLI, I still think one 660Ti would be faster than SLI 650Ti in most scenarios, for slightly less money.

So glad I haven't wasted money on this generation of overpriced, under performing range of cards.

Sorry, but I've found the whole pricing situation pretty disgusting this time, cynical 'cartel' like releases and price movements.

This segment of the PC market desperately needs a credible 3rd alternative to these two shady rip off merchants, AMD & Nvidia.

I fully expect one day to read headlines about the competition authorities launching an investigation into the dealings of these two.

why cant nvidia use 555 or 565 instead of Ti to denote differences? It will eventually be like the 9600 with gt, gts, gs, gee what will we think of next obsession.

Personally they need to have a card at that level of performance that doesn't require the power connector. Guess efficiency isn't there yet. Ill wait till next gen.

Seriously, I'm getting pretty $*>:@#g sick and tired of nVidia (through their partner proxies) continually sending out overclocked parts for launch reviews.
I want to see reference parts at launch, THEN you can send out all the OC TOP SSC Black Super Cool WTF cheesecake Frozr Dooper XXX Porno Edition parts you want.

True, its needed, but the only ones that could is Intel or an ARM based GPU. And if Intel started making GPUs like these, I want Nvidia to have PC processors.
