Scratch Build The race : Project P42 - April 1 2013 Project P42 FINISHED

Its time for a new project.

Again im making a scratchbuild.This time im making a dual itx lan case.March 29 there is a lan party near my town and that day its my son's 7th birthday.The name P42 stands for "Party for two "so im taking this case to the lan with my son at his first lan party.

The deadline is ending before p0Pe aka Hans does.

ITS ON !!!

The render.



The case will look almost the same as the render when its finisht but knowing some things always change when im fabricating.This time im using air cooling.


The hardware.

2x Intel i5 3570
2x Zotac Z77 -ITX Wifi
2x Zotac GTX 670 AMP Edition
2x DDR 3 8GB memory (Not decided yet)
2x Cooler Master silent pro M2 420w
2x SSD 128gb (Not decided yet)
2x HDD Samsung ecogreen 1TB
2x Cooler Master TPC 800

Time to fabricate.

First i made the frame off 20x20x3mm stainless steel









Then it was time to make the front for this i used 1,5mm steel.

Made all the pieces i need by hand and spotwelded them togheter.































Then i welded the cover and did some sanding.

Update 1. 19 Jan 2013

Today i made a little progress again.I started working on the backside of the case.

First i cutt a plate and made the little pieces i need to get the right angles.The i spotwelded the pieces together.







Finished welding and some sanding.





This is done so far the holes for the i/o shield and psu comming later.Then it was time to make the bottom cover.

First i cutt a plate and bend it.





After that i made a mount bracket.



The holes are for M5 weld nuts.



Then i weld the weld nuts. ( sounds funny )









Then i welded the mount bracket inside the bottom cover.



This is how it looks so far.

Thanks alpaca and a normal nut is smooth on both sides and a weld nut has a edge that aligns in a hole.

Update 2 - 26 Jan 2013.

Today i made the handle bars and the top cover.This time its more pictures and less talking so enjoy the pictures i would say.

First i made the handle bars.For this i used 2mm stainless.First i cutt al the pieces i need and then welded en finished them.

























The handle bars are ready so its time to make the top cover.For this i used 1.5mm steel.First i cutt al the pieces i need and then bend,weld and finshed them.































Then i mounted the handle bars to the cover.







Test fitting.

Update 3. 3Feb 2013

This weekend i start working on the custom fancovers and backplates for the vidcards.
I am using aircooling in this project so the vidcards needed some attention.First i want to announce Noiseblocker as a sponsor for this build.

De casefans 2x 140 - 4x 120 en 2x 80mm black silent fans.

Lets get to work.First the parts were cutt and after that i bended and sanded the parts.







After that it was time to paint the parts with primer.



Then i sanded the parts again and painted them with black and yellow.After that i finished the parts with some varnish.

Next thing to do is paint the vidcard fans and then mount everything together.

As a previously LAN-regular I'm really looking forward to how this will pan out. And while one could question if 7 years is a good age for LAN-parties, I really do love the idea of this mod! And just generally, the idea of a multi-ITX case has lingered in my head for a while. I like that general idea too! So you have my attention!

P.S.: Go p0pe! Being partly Danish, I have to support that side of this modding-race

No green stuff for me mate. Well i dont know if 7 is a good age for a lan party but my son loves to game and he will be playing lego games and stuff because there is no way i lett him play COD or something.

Update 4.

The only thing that was left to do for the custom coolers was painting the fans.

The pictures look a bit off but thats was because of the bad light that day.









Now that everything is done its time to mount it all back together.I started with mounting the fans.
