@Cheap - Time Bandits is a great movie from my childhood. I'll never be able to watch it for the first time, again.
![]() I don't think I recall anyone doing a Time Bandits project. I can't even imagine what direction it would come from as there are sooo many fascinating scenes in the movie. If I were to do a project (assuming I ever have money again), I'd do it based on the map, itself. Map<---Click! There is also the scene in the movie where they break the glass and reveal the dark castle. As I said... sooo many scenes and elements! Last edited by Muerlin; 20th Feb 2013 at 20:03. |

Lots of random little parts last time.
Not so much a cup holder this time around. Early on it had the potential to be a cigar cutter. The angle on the faceplate was just right. I decided it would work better with a heavy bevel on the panel hole instead.

Some great billet milling on this project. Those SSDs should show off nicely in that unit.
As far as a Time Bandits theme, how wonderful that could be!

If it's screwed in from below as well why not, will be sturdy enough.
![]() Awesome bit of creativity Cheaps, love how you thought of using the optical for mounting things quite differently especially something like this, quite complex & looking great I like it. ![]()

My reaction too, but making support won't be bad if needed.

Fixed. You're lucky I didn't send an empty zip that early in the day.

It just occurred to me we could do an entire case held together with harddrives used as 90 degree brackets.

And you'd need a forklift to move the finished case around!

Only if we do it for Seagate.... my hometown hero.
We have 3 more parts to make, actuator extension arm and two cover ribs for the ends. So while I wait for those, I worked on the boring, but necessary stage of the build, cleaning up all of the milled pieces. I dismantled the chassis so I could clean and remove minor scratches or the manufacturer ink stamp on the surface of the aluminum. I'm using 3M red Scotchbrite pads to remove any small scratches or marring to the surface of the aluminum. This is "very Fine" version and it's also a great alternative to sandpaper for prepping PC cases for painting. You can also use these 3M Scotchbrite pads for deburring Steel, Acrylic or Plastic. ![]()

Cleaned up nicely, bought a bunch of those pads but generic ones in coarse, medium & fine, they are really handy to have, nicer to use than sandpaper.
![]() I might be in a minority of turning lightly scuffed work into very nicely cleaned up work as not boring, adds a lot more awesome to the final look, same with polishing, turns the awesometer higher.
