Project: FrozenCPU: Billet Pron Bench; Updated Today!

Our retailer, FrozenCPU has been retailing Mnpctech products for one year now. We're both celebrating 12 years of business! I was honored when Frozen approached us about creating a custom "FrozenCPU" theme PC

Thank you guys for the comments and staying tuned!

The kind folks at Corsair were generous to send us their new Force GS SSD 240 GB and two 16 GB packs of Dominator DDR3 to utilize in our build. Awesome! Thank you Corsair!!!!!

FrozenCPU wanted their PC to be jaw dropping, unique and utilitarian. highlights from the build videos that will be on Mnpctech's YouTube Channel

Another wicked custom PC build by Mnpctech.com!

Here the Mnpctech products that will be featured in the build!

Mnpctech Machined Aluminum "Grooved" Case Feet here,
http://www.frozencpu...d_-_Silver.html

Mnpctech Machined Aluminum "480" radiator with rotating grill inserts here,
http://www.frozencpu...m_-_Silver.html

Time to feed da Milll!

The side walls will draw in plenty of cool air.

The two walls are milled from .5" thick 6061 billet.

The back plates are machined from 1/8" thick. The two 480 radiators will reside behind these.

The "BIG F" will be mounted on the side walls.

The chassis width is just under 23"

The lower front bezel, for optical drive bay, power switch, power and HD activity LEDS.

Update: 1/22/13

Tech Station floor was milled from 1/4" sheet of 6061

SSD cage mounting holes

Chassis back plates with jaw line

The grills were inspired by Mnpctech's machined aluminum "480" radiator grill with rotating grill inserts here,
http://www.frozencpu...m_-_Silver.html

480 radiator grill machined from 3/16" sheet, inspired by Mnpctech Machined Aluminum radiator grill with rotating grill inserts, sold by frozencpu here,

The sidewalls are .5" thick and will have Round Modders Mesh will be attached to the inside of the walls.

We'll go over all of the bare surfaces of the aluminum parts to remove small scratches with 3M Red Scotchbrite Pads

The Tech station will host two 480 radiators in the rear cavity. We revised Mnpctech 480 machined aluminum radiator grill design slightly for the build.

We're utilizing two Aquacomputer Aqualis 450ml Reservoirs from Frozencpu. (approx. 80 x 80 x 170 mm) These measure 70mm in diameter and made from Borosilicate glass, so they're scratch resistant! There is no color absorption in this glass, so dye colors look more vibrant.

70mm Borosilicate glass tube.

Aquacomputer's form-fitting D5 pump adapter, #34044

Mounting solution for the two Aqualis reservoirs, all aluminum design devised by Cheaps.

The ribs will be held in place with machined rods, which is next stage!

Update 2/5/13

The cover will be opened with a Linear actuator arm. It's powered by electric motor with gear drive inside that extends single arm back and forth. We debated about using two Linear actuators, one on each side, but decided to try one arm first and install 2nd, if needed later.

Mounting hardware included with Firgelli actuator. We will be making our own mounting brackets.

Order page for Firgelli L16-P Use the L16-P as linear servo by purchasing an LAC board. Pricing: $80 per unit for switches or feedback. $10 per unit discount when you buy 10. Save $20 when you purchase with an LAC board.

The L16 is a scaled up version of the L12 with a larger motor for faster speeds and heavier loads. Standard options include: three stroke lengths and three force/speed combinations(gear ratios). Each actuator has 2 internal limit switches to shut off the power once the end of stroke is reached. These switches cannot be moved.
All our actuators come with a hardware kit for mounting.

Update 2/7

machined rods were finished yesterday...

the rods will join the 30x ribs that make the top cover

these spacers will go between each of the 30 ribs in the cover...

Updated 2/13

Finished the individual parts for the Motherboard I/O. Mounting posts and swing arm, which will hold down the I/O brackets on the GPUs. .... Actuator arm arrived this week, I'll try and get those pics taken and posted soon!

Update 2/14/13

The actuator arrived. I'll be installing it this weekend. Here is all of the details and links to Firgelli.

Firgelli L16 Actuator Data Sheet

Firgelli L16 Actuator.

Standard options include: three stroke lengths and three force/speed combinations (gear ratios). Each actuator has an internal linear potentiometer that provides position feedback.

We have 3 more parts to make, actuator extension arm and two cover ribs for the ends. So while I wait for those, I worked on the boring, but necessary stage of the build, cleaning up all of the milled pieces. I dismantled the chassis so I could clean and remove minor scratches or the manufacturer ink stamp on the surface of the aluminum.

I'm using 3M red Scotchbrite pads to remove any small scratches or marring to the surface of the aluminum. This is "very Fine" version and it's also a great alternative to sandpaper for prepping PC cases for painting. You can also use these 3M Scotchbrite pads for deburring Steel, Acrylic or Plastic.

I've been editing videos mostly this week, I took a mental break yesterday to install our machined alum case feet onto the Tech Station.

Frozen retails Mnpctech's Aluminum "Grooved" Case Feet here,
http://www.frozencpu...d_-_Silver.html

Update 3/1/13, Billet Motherboard tray

We're looking into adding a gas charged spring to the other side, just as added precautionary measure, in case the actuator ever failed. Several people expressed interest in making ATX version of the CNC Machined Aluminum Motherboard Tray. I'm looking into contracting another shop to make these, so I don't have a cost confirmed yet, but here is what the proposed kit would look like and include,

One Mainboard Tray with four large opening for PSU cables and connections.
One Rear I/O Shield Plate with & PCI slots.
Two triangular Motherboard brackets that connect Mainboard Tray to I/O Shield.
Two reinforcement brackest for triangular motherboard brackets.
Nine Motherboard Stand-off risers.
Finish is brushed bare Aluminum.
Includes 6/32 tapered flat head stainless machine screws.

More updates soon

Thank you for all of the comments! Roboduck and I have been busy preparing to host the 1st Midwest PC Modder event this Saturday If you know anyone from bit-tech, (besides Mosquito, he already knows ) who lives in this frigid region, please tell them about our event

@Muerlin, good guess, ...stated in 1st post, "After conference a few calls, I learned they share our love for Sci-Fi, custom cars, and bikes." , but we always loved the layered look, outside of any direct sci-fi reference, thanks for comment!

@jrs77, people always ask "How much does it weigh?"..... and my response is, "I'm not carrying it on my back, across Hoth in a blizzard, so I don't really care."

@Ace, good hearing from you!

@Andrew, good luck with the new job today!

Concept for actuator arm. (not final)

Trianguler pieces are the mounting base for the Actuator body. The other pieces are from earlier design for actuator "yoke" that we've scraped for now. We should have the machined rods for the cover in this afternoon, for assembly of the 30x ribs that make the cover.

@coolamasta, we can't wait either, lots more projects to share with you. thanks for tuning in!

@andrew8200m, thanks for watching!

The actuator arrived. Here is all of the details with links from Firgelli. Roboduck informed me the 200N max force lift rating is 45 pounds, so one actuator should lift our cover, but I bought 2nd actuator we can install if needed. The quality is the actuator construction is exceptionally good. The order process and packing of everything was good too! I plan to install the actuator this weekend and will share my results. I'm also documenting the entire build to share on my YouTube Channel.

Firgelli L16 Actuator Data Sheet PDF Link

Firgelli L16 Actuator.

Standard options include: three stroke lengths and three force/speed combinations (gear ratios). Each actuator has an internal linear potentiometer that provides position feedback.

Firgelli LAC Controller with USB.

You need 12V DC Power Adapter (we will make PSU connection)
We ordered 1 meter long extension cable for L12 -P or L16 -P actuators. One male and one female end, 5 conductor, 26 AWG.

The Linear Actuator Control Board is a stand-alone closed-loop control board specifically designed for Firgelli "P" series actuators. The LAC greatly simplifies designs by saving the development time, cost, and processor overhead associated with direct motor control. As little as 1 digital or analog output is required for position control. Supported input signals include USB, Voltage, Current, RC Servo, and PWM. On board adjustment of speed, sensitivity, and stroke limits are available. The LAC can be operated as both an interface board, or as a stand alone controller with the addition of an external potentiometer and power supply. Each LAC Board controls 1 linear actuator and will require an external power supply rated for the actuator. The LAC will work with the L12-P, PQ12-P and L16-P. It may also be able to drive other larger actuators that have position feedback.

Note: If you buy an "P" series actuator and an LAC at the same time, you get the LAC for 1/2 price! Look for the "Add LAC?*" button when purchasing a "P" series actuator and save!

@Maki role, according data we have, it should work fine, but will confirm this weekend!

We're making mounting plates for Aqua Computer Aqualis Reservoirs this weekend.

Haha! I need to weigh it for you guys...not as bad as you're imagining, ....(soo far)

I didn't have time to assemble the cover and install Firgelli this weekend, but did get more of the tiny parts finished. This is the front panel Power switch plate , .25" thick alum will mount over .25" thick Light Blue acrylic and fits 22mm Bulgin switch, 5mm LED. The other two holes are for fasteners
