Is my GTX 670 crashing my PC?
I've had a MSI GTX 670 TF4 Power Edition for little over a month now.

Just now, for the 5th time, I just had my entire PC randomly shut off for a few seconds before restarting. I keep my CPU at stock speeds and a I have a tiny OC on my GPU. GPU Clock - 1055, Memory 1520, Boost - 1133. The highest temp I have seen it reach is slightly under 70C in BF3. I play everything max settings.

It first happened when I was playing the new SimCity beta. At first I thought I might have OC'd a little to much, so I turned it down. The shut off happened again so I turned off all OC. And again, with no OC it shut off during the beta play. It has happened twice now while playing Boarderlands 2 (OC on, see above paragraph for current stats). In BL2, temp reaches a max of about 60C.

I looking for some help to see what the problem might be. Rig in sig. Thanks for reading!

Edit: 6th time, no OC, right after starting BL2.

What are your RAM speeds/timings? Are they all at stock? Voltages?

Also, how old is your PSU?

Changed ram in BIOS to 1600 as that is what I bought and psu is year and like 8 months. I'm starting to think it is afterburner or fraps doing it.

However this problem only started when I got the 670.

Did you use Driver sweeper to completely remove your GPU drivers before installing the 670?
What voltage is your RAM? What voltage is it running at currently?

Wasn't there an issue reported with the MSI Power edition cards?

Something about their excessive overvolting causing errors and failures?

I saw that article as well. I just updated my gtx drivers (though I believe they were already up to date). I uninstalled my old 6870 drivers myself(a month ago) but downloaded Driver Sweeper anyways. There is an ATI - Display section I can "clean" but am not to sure if I should. Lot of files in the system 32 folder.

I honestly think it's Boarderlands 2 crashing my PC. I can run BF3 just fine (and it's harder on my GPU). Any thoughts on this? Never had a game crash my system. I verified the integrity of game cache and everything is fine there.

Do you use a soundcard? could be soundcard drivers.

Uninstall/Clean those ATI drivers completely.

You said it also happened with the Simcity beta, so it might not be game related.

The fact that its happening during gaming tells me that the pc is being stressed to some point, especially the GPU, which in turn is too much for the PSU to handle. Have you got any other PSU to test the system with?

In most cases, hardware faults cause BSOD's. Complete shutdowns are usually (in my experience) a result of the PSU not coping with the load.

If it's not crashing in safe mode. RMA the card. It happened to my 670 cheesecake.

Too late for an RMA, would have to deal with MSI. I'll test that out tomorrow.

Only thing I'm not understanding is why is it only happening when I play BL2 and in the past when I played the SimCity beta?

Possible fix

It says to update your motherboard's bios. Not sure if you've tried that yet.
