Asus Z87i-Pro Review

We take a look at Asus' successor to the P8Z77-i Deluxe and the mini-ITX board to beat on LGA1150.

Platinum has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
I wonder why no one has made a DTX board of late, will still fit in ITX cases but would give you a PCI-E 16x slot and a 1x slot for sound cards / nics ect, it would limit you to a single slot card but I am sure some watercooling magic could be done as well.

If I could get one I would, I would stick in a top end watercooled card and use the 1x slot for a decent sound card.

DTX was DOA mate.

It won't fit in mini-ITX cases: 203 mm by 244 mm versus 170x170mm. Might as well go mATX 244 mm 244 mm

I think he meant mini DTX, which is ITX + 1 slot (170x203mm).

Ah 203 mm by 170 mm.

Basically doesn't exist. The mini-ITX ecosystem took long enough to catch on.

Well yeah, boards do not exists. Cases do - pretty much any dual slot ITX case (which is majority of them) do support mDTX boards, as technically all those ITX cases are mini DTX cases. It's only the mDTX boards which are missing.

As long as my mATX board can take a dual slot GPU, a sound card as well as have space for another expansion slot or two for a TV card or something else, I am a happy boy.

I noticed, through building the comp for my bro, that Hasswell motherboards seem unable to fit the NH-D14 cooler from Noctua anymore, unlike my Sabretooth 55i. In the normal direction (fans blowing horizontally), the heatpipes get too close to the first slot and the fins were covering the other slots, which prevented inserting RAM into the 3 other slots (those Corsair sticks get too high with that useless radiator on em).

Is it typical to Asus, or is this a problem with all Hasswell motherboard designs? Asking because I would like to reuse my cooler if I upgrade. :/

I have to agree about the colour, as much as I like Asus boards. There's just no nice way of saying the colour scheme is just not my cup of tea. I was sooo relieved when Asus announced the Maximus VI Impact.

Similiar issue with K2 Doom. Tis okay though, stuck a single tower Xigmatek turned sideway on to the rear and it's fine on a i5 4670k.

Bwech, I'm starting to loose overview.

So I've got ATX, MATX, ATX and Mini-ITX in descending order?

Mini-ATX (MATX) and Micro-ATX (ATX) are not the same, sorry.
ASUS offers both for instance.

But I see you understand my confusion

I know Mini-ATX and Micro-ATX aren't the same but uATX/ATX and m-atx in product listings typically both refer to the 244x244mm form factor.

And for the record, when I checked the ASUS a few minutes ago EATX, ATX, Micro-ATX [ATX] and Mini-ITX were the only options listed... The german site may be different though...

Anyway, you're right... it's bloody confusing...
