I know it's a bit late to post this, or mebby not , still needs work.

i hear you cry yet another maplin box lol :D

i'll let the picks speak for them selves.

back plate cut into the box

The LED's and reset switch soldered to some stripboard and secured on an L shape bracket.
There will be just 3 small holes made to the outer lid, 2 1mm holes for some fibre optic and a 2mm hole for the reset switch.

A frontal view showing all componants in place. the silver DVD drive i got from ebay cheap , it has been set back because it's the wrong colour and the bezal has a slight bend to it. so thats going to be steathed.

    Top View
All the cables need securing and i'm still unsure about the fans. (Do i need any?)

    Morex PSU

    Drive mounts.
Two plates of alloy with the screw holes countersunk to allow the short screws to bite
The complete asemble is held to the box by motherboard standoffs screwed to the underside of the hard drive.

The bottom showing all the screws countersunk and the rubber feet. (sorry bout the prints, needs polishing)

    Now the lid.
It will be cut out , plexy put behind and a blue light put under it.

    To do:

    cut window
cut the back pannel out of the lid
cut fan holes and add fans
    stealth the dvd
    tidy cables
    and polish it

    comments as always welcome

I need some room to breath!!!!!

looks to me like you got a little room between the front and the moboard... Maybe have some fans draw from the bottom and then screw som alumi plate to the top of them to direct the airflow correctly... and don't forget to put some screen over the fan intake to put a hamper on freeroaming dust bunnies!

Thanks for the replies , i'll lookinto the bottem fans, good idea actually

bsodmike i am still alive yes :p

the black and white wires are connected to a jack plug, which gets its power from a laptop power brick.

it's only 55w but it works

I'm gunna cut a rectangle out and do a via etch on the plexy.

    Heres another update

Side fan holes drilled and bolts glued on, i used super glue , is that a problem?

Vandal switch and 3 holes, middle reset the others led's

Lookin good :thumb: Personaly I would of used hot glue though, acts as somewhat of a shock absorber, reduces vibration, and you have the possability of removing it latter on. Another bonus is that you can clean up any that went astray. But otherwise, looks good. BTW, quick question, how exactly do vandal switches work? They look like just normal switches to me that bolt in place. Ah well, keep up the good work.

i think vandal switches are supposed to prevent ppl from stealing, aka anti-vandal switches coz they're bolted from the inside...

    am i wrong?

    thank you for the comments.

the switch is just a normal push to make type.

i think you are sorta right about the switch.

anti - vandal i think means cos it's got a flush mount bezal and there is no clearance for any thing to be pushed down the side of the actuator, and the fact it is made out of stainless steel and water proof.

    more updates will follow
