Polishing A Harddrive (Images Fixed)

SiL3nT-Hard Drive Polishing

Alrite step one , raid the old mans shed to find.

*Cut and polish Compund
*Sumkind of Wax
*Rags

Step One , Remove all stickers .
If thier is any sticky stuff left use mineral turps or sugar soap to remove .

Apply Cutting Compund , to remove grime and tiny scrathes . Apply with a rag .

Okay Load your dremel up with the polishing pad and go over the Hardrive in long smooth lines not circles .

How I set my hobby tool up (no its not a dremels , does everything a dremel does) .

Alrite lets get sum wax polish , apply it by hand by dapping it on .
Let it dry for 5 minutes , buff it off by hand by making little circles .

Alrite it should be looking like this , Apply wax once and remove by buffing .

Okay , your done your Harddrive should be looking like this Smile.

SEXI!

Pretty simple to do but very pleasing .

Please let me know what you think !

Very Nice, i've done this to a HDD before, but i didn't get as result as good as that, maybe i'll have to look into a different type of compound/wax since i used some cheapy stuff that looked like it was made in the 1920's.

I think the hard drive itself produces more vibration than a soft polishing attachment for a small-drill/dremel like that.

Alu would be much easier than steel. Aluminum is softer than steel and therefore easier to "cut down" and polish to a mirror finish. The draw back is that polished aluminum tends to haze over very easily and needs frequent touching up.

Very nice!

Just a small caution though :

Some hard drives have breather holes on the top cover, care should be taken when polishing these!

So why not just take the top cover off and polish it while it's off? Like, do you really need the top to be on?

There is a reason why the air is sterile/100% clean when then produce HDDs...

Opening the disc, is not good at all, usually when people open them, they crash not long after... I would never remove the cover on any of my discs (if i wanted to use it again afterwards that is)

Looks very slick! Does the HDD corrode? I mean does it stay shiny?

The wax stops the oxide from forming im guessing, so it should stay shiny for ages unless the wax is removed.

If the drive has holes in the top plate, that is no worse then taking the top completely off is it?

The hol/holes have a filter on them to stop gumpf from getting in so they are not bad, and usually a necessary design feature to stop the drive from failing under the increased internal pressure.
