Will be buying myself a tasty mk6 escort, Apparently theres a few cosworth mods you can buy for it, like the dual headlamp conversion!
Anyone know much about this?

Don't do it man, not unless you plan on dropping a Cossie engine in there.

Why even bother wasting your time posting replies like that, youre all so childish, if he wants to know about it i dont think he cares about your opinion on modding cars at all
Get a Cosworth spoiler for it if youre after cosworth looks, thats a cool mod to do.

Please don't rice up the Escort.
Real Cossies are very nice (my nextdoor neighbour has had a Sierra Cossie and now has a Escort Cossie). Put the money into better tyres or real performance mods for the car. Or do what I would do and put a nice new soundsystem into it.

![]() You gotta love cars you can effectively write off by nicking a speaker or two! Mine is a good example... Back to topic, I personally don't reckon the mk6 escort is the best looking version - it looks overweight. Please, Please stay away from the standard crappy whaletails etc - try to make your car look fast but vaguely classy as well. Try to put the car on a diet... I'm assuming you dont have much more money or you would have gone for a newer car, so concentrate on basic ICE, stuff like air filters etc to make the car a little faster without affecting the insurance. Then i guess you could get morette style twin lights, tho i personally think the car's not the right style for them. Why not buy some car modding magazines and trawl through until you can find a combination that looks reasonable? It would help if we knew how much money (also insurance) you have to play with! |

To my defense: 1. Modding my own car involves installing a stouter elastic band, so i need know nothing about filters It was a botched example of sensible upgrades I know exist.2. The idea was to make the best of a bad situation; I resent the sabotagement, you nasty bully. Course, that's why i asked how much Fowler was gonna spend, i.e. whether a better base car is better than spending on upgrades. |

Best thing you can do is work on, suspension, brakes, tyres and exhaust, this is where you will find the greatest benifit.

A chipped/reprogrammed ECU will have a similar effect , it will feel faster and 'nippy' but wont be much more powerful. Only big meefy engines get bigger hp gains from these mods, as can be proven with various tests like rolling roads.

You CAN get power from intake mods, but only when the car is already restricted, and only if you do an exhaust mod as well.
1. Replace the entire (restricted) intake assembly with a custom one with less obstruction to the air flow. Make sure you put the actual intake somewhere near the front, so as to force cold air into the engine. 2. Put a K&N conical filter on the top of your throttle body. This won't obstruct airflow and will stop things getting in. 3. Install a good set of exhaust extractors and maybe a less restrictive tailpipe - it doesn't need to be a crazy size, however. A backbox can make your car sound better, but isn't nessecary. 4. On the Micra, which is my car, you have to increase fuel pressure. Now the engine can get all the air it needs, it will use it, which means better compression and combustion. You need to do this because otherwise you will get missfiring, which damages the cat. You won't get miracles from doing this, but you might get an extra 5hp, and you will definitely notice the difference in acceleration. |

What I said was not directed at him, but at some people in general. What you said was directed at me personally which is very rude. I was not saying air filters do nothing but I was just showing the humour of people who really do think that they gain serious speed using one. Surely for a car to go faster it would either need to be more powerful or reduce in weight so its power to weight ratio was better?
