in preparation for the upcoming volt mod

the heatsink on the core is the stock from a P4 3GHz (copper base) butchered up a bit and the ramsinks are chopped up socketA alu heatsink

the electrical tape on the back of the duct serves as a gasket to sleal up against the back of the case and a 50mm fan brings in fresh air and blows it sideways over the heatsink
the other electrical tape is because when i superglued the fan in the duct it made the plastic go all gooey and nasty so i just made it a bit more sightly

    results soon...

Ah Josh I see you've gone ahead with adding more heatsinks to PC components. Looking good. The black tape adds a nice "ghetto" touch to it. Don't suppose you need a volcano 9 for your next air cooling idea?

Dear god! That is a monster! only 50mm fan though? I would have thought 120mm at least ;)

How is the gpu heatsink attached? thermal adhesive? whats that amount of weight like on the card?

Nice work. i think it's quite classily doen, looks good :thumb:

i think the duct goes some way to help support the card, the ramsinks are relatively light, rofl at the ram falling off, see how that stands up to an RMA

was considering a bigger fan but i had teh 50mm one to hand (came off the heatsink i cut up for the ramsinks) and it *only* takes up 2 extra slots with the 50mm, the gpu sink is attatched using the 4 bolt holes around the core, and a home brew mounting bracket, teh card is freaking heavy with this on, the cooler is many times the weight of the card, but it isnt bowing at all when it is in the case so i guess that is a good sign :worried:

ROFL, i just had a curious look at the southbridge and some heatsinks i have for the sake of it and it looks like the gfx card heatsinks actually would interfere with anything higher than 1cm or so on the SB, hehe :D

Come on, why just stop there? You can add atleast another 80mm fan.

Get creative and make a fan box, mount like 4 fans and pipe the air over that heatsink. Perfect excuse to buy plexiglas or lexan and make a duct. :dremel:

Now I want to see the performance gains. Or maybe the card would just sit around all day and night complaing about how much it weights.

a small drop of superglue in each corner and AS3 in the middle

    as for the results:

    before
    max overclock: 565/1012
    idle temp: 45C
    max temp: 82C

    after
    max overclock: 575/1020
    idle temp: 27C
    max temp: 48C

not a huge gain on the overclocking side but my previous *benchmark only* clocks can now be *all the time* clocks, which is nice :D
and the new temps should leave anough headroom for the voltmod as well
