True enough they have stuff like stargate, but again, they have ALOT more people to work on this sort of stuff. So dont get on at the BBC. At least we have stuff like "whose line is it anyway", and... uhmm, such others :P While i could rant about the past, id be in contradiction with my stance against forest supporters :P

While you may find it amusing to winge about this.... you're so wrong you should be ashamed of yourself.
BBC is still a British company.... ... That is an american site listing shows available in america... BBC recently branched over British TV to the american market in the name of the channel BBC America... It's exactly the same as us having CNN, it's an american thing but we have a British version.... So there

but we dont call it CNN England, or CNN UK. Why does america have to stick its name onto EVERYTHING that happens within it. And lorquis, maybe you missed a few points
I wasnt "winging" (initially), i was enquiring I never doubted the BBC Was still british, i just windered what was going on. The title was to add a bit of spice to the topic. Other people seem to have grasped such concepts :P

I bought Bottom and The Young Ones on DVD from PlayUSA.com (Because unlike our poxy BBC distribution you can actually get the whole series box sets over there).
They're distributed by BBC America in the states and on the front is a 'hilarious' piss take of English people by suggesting we all have bad teeth and drink tea, however we do make exceedingly good comedy. It would seem that either BBC America is a subsidary run by Americans or the Beeb is just pandering to the states, with a reminder that the only achievements we've had is that we have no dental plans and drink nothing other than Earl Gray. |

America doesn't own the BBC.
its like every other company, they have subsidies, like for example Microsoft UK and Microsoft USA. Same company, same products, jsut different regions. This is kinda a protection for the company. If they didn't do this, then if a venture in a foreign country failed, it could effect stock market prices and company profits. If a subsidy fails, they just pack up, and cut their losses, not harming the original business. This is the same for the BBC. BBC America is a branch/subsidy of the BBC. Plus 1337modderman, there are a lot more moronic programs in america than there are here. We have only 5 channels, they have HUNDREDS. Not every television company cna be expected to produce award winning programs every time.

, maybe UPN, some sort of Public Television, and maybe 1 or 2 more. The spectrum was divided into UHF and VHF before cable and satellite. Now with cable and satellite broadcasts we have a choice of hundreds just as you do with Sky.However, I do agree that almost everything on TV (hundreds of programs) are total crap and not worth the bandwidth they take up! Thank goodness for TiVo. I record only what I want to watch and never have to bother with the garbage or the commercials pimping the total crap. If I hear about one more so called “reality” show I think I am going to shoot my TV (I know what Elvis was thinking).

'scuse my ignorance jgrade, just seems more common place in the us to have cable, so i thought it can as standard
But even still, the major factor is, these tv companies have to cater for every taste, they have to appeal to the mass public and they will like different things. Therefore, to expect tv to be wholey-good all the time is a bit naieve. (a little off topic but...) As for reality tv, BB5 has started up in the uk, and i can proudly say i have never watched an episode in my life. It is tv executives praying on the depraved and voyeristic tendancies of the masses, and really, if your THAT desperate to watch people, go down the local park or city centre and be nosey by listening to other peoples conversations.

I couldn't agree with you more about TV, but what does it say for Americans when the most popular shows are reality and horrible crime dramas. I actually enjoy watching BBC America, I have it on DirecTV, Dish Network and cable. Not to contradict myself, but added together I have the option to watch about 800 channels. Sadly, only about 200 of them are unique.

maybe the point is being lost...
The British Broadcasting Company, is funded by the british. We pay TV LIcences and it all goes to the BBC to put somne quality entertainment on our televisions without adverts. I understand companies have subsidies, but do they declare themselfs as particular to that country ? Does BBC America have any adverts ?

I was skimming through the thread and I came across the comment quoted above. It's actually kind of funny: Now that you have BBC America, if I understand correctly, you can watch a bunch of the shows we have over here. A lot of the new shows we have over here, ironically enough, were "borrowed" from BBC programs. Trading Spaces, The Weakest Link, Junkyard Wars, etc. Oh, and we even have our own verison of Who's Line. It even has many of the same people that you guys had over there (Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Colin Mochrie). Who's Line is about the only good show among the BBC transfers. So now you guys get to watch the American equivalent of older BBC shows! And yes, the current crop of "must see" television is everything except "must see." If I have to endure one more commercial for the Bachelor or Donald Trump's new show, I think i'm going to sell everything I own, buy an island somewhere and never return! -monkey

Bogomip - I'm sitting in my family room now watching BBCA. The line up for the n ext few hours is
Reckless Scandal Reckless House Invaders Changing Rooms Scandal Reckless BBC World News Talking News Bargin Hunt Ground Force Garden Rivals Room Rivals Anything in particular I can look for? Do any of these sound familiar? I just watched for about 10 minutes and only saw a commercial for BBCA (about 10 seconds long) and then the next show started.
