Project : THE STEEL MOD, 100% METAL [Updated : 4/11]

Hi all

This project is my first mod, i've decided to use metal instead of plexi or others parts used by many modders.

Here is the hardware and watercooling list :

All of this will be put in this little case :


So let's go :

The case without the top, side and face.



Here i drop away the HDD bays



Then i've noticed that the Mobo panel was bended cuz nothing support it.



So i put a piece of aluminium to fix it







Then i put cornered pieces of alu all around the case to reinforce it.



I take 4 pieces of inoxydable steel



One for the face, and this is what i've do with it

Drill it



Put potentiometers


And caps


In place

Update :

I started fixing right panel :





And cutting the front panel for the blowhole :





Then I put a protection around the hole waiting for my own "fanduct"

Puttin some leds on a Sx2 :

I don't think so, the inox steel is pretty difficult to work on, and it is already brushed as I wish so

 

nice work, it's going to be pretty heavy though. are you intending to put any optical devices in there?

 

Yeah, a NEc 3500A, currently no place decided to put it, but i'm working on it.

Awesome nice fan mounting/housing

 

is that side window a whole thing of just mesh, its pretty much putting the computer out in the open....could be noisy and also accumulate alot of dust..
you could put some plexi behind it, but yea you don't want to use that.

@toxicwazte : The side window is just mesh, if there's no fan just behind the mesh no additional noise, and for the dust, i cleaning my pc twice a month

 

sleek and stylish, is the mesh hex or circle?

 

Actually i'm using only hex mesh, but maybe i'll use the circle one alonso gived to me.

I will install the two watercooling circuits, currently doing some planning, the new front panel, side, and top. Wait and see

can I ask if the steel was lazer cut or if you did it yourself?

 

Oh man, you don't know how the hell it's difficult to cut this kind of stell.
So near to my house, there's a man who do steel cutting. He do this with a powerful machine, it cut it by weight pressure.
