Gaarrgg! The instructions say I'm meant to put the zalman backplate on the back of the board (an A8V deluxe), but the Asus one won't come off easily. Should I force the asus one off or use it instead of the zalman one? The screws fit the same diameter but appear to be of different lengths. Haven't dared try yet, in case i crush something... Any ideas anyone?

and yes, I HAVE taken off the black thing on the top side of the board! :duh:

ANY help would be great please!

I had to do this on my A8V, to install the very same Zalman cooler. I too was puzzled and emailed the very helpful Jack at Kustom PCs (to whom you can credit these instructions :) ) It comes away much more easily than expected.

What you will need it a flat bladed screwdriver - preferably with a thin
tip and blunted corners - and a piece of thin card.

With the motherboard face down, place the card close up against the back
plate and position the screwdriver on the card, underneath one edge of
the backing plate - this should be close to one end as the adhesive only
really takes grip around the two mounting posts.
The Card is there to protect the motherboard, so be very careful that
the screwdriver does not come off the card during the next step.

With the screwdriver positioned and on the card, gently but firmly twist
the screwdriver to pry the back plate off of the motherboard - you
should hear the adhesive losing grip while doing this.

Repeat this for the second mounting post and you should then be able to
pull the backing plate from the motherboard.

Following this, simply follow the mounting instructions provided with
the Zalman cooler and you should be enjoying your new Athlon64 system
    very soon :)

yeah i had the same problem. with mine, the plate was stuck on; i just took the mobo out, turned it over and very carefully pulled/pushed it off evenly. it's not really hard.
