More mrhaz mumblings, courtesy of the Inq. This time he's spouting on about a flash based 3D fragfest that aledgedly has graphics on par with UT2K3. Can it be true, or is it a figment of Wil's over taxed brain? ;)

    Read on:

WHILE PLODDING our course down the information superhighway, we came across something that was so funky we simply had to show it to you.

Most Flash games on the net are simple affairs, with cursor control and some gawkish graphics. Not this one. Fancy a quick online fragathon in a fully rendered 3D engine against bots with decent AI?

Look no further. Rasterwerks has the most incredible fully-3D FPS available to play online. The geeks and geekettes have written it in Flash and it provides visuals on par with Unreal Tournament 2003.

It's incredibly easy to spend half an hour getting absorbed in this, especially if you can't load any other titles onto your working machine. We shall be keeping a close eye on Rasterwerks to see what else they come up with.

L'inquage you will need to follow, should you wish to see Flash generated gibs.

[EDIT] And believe me, you want to check it out. This is seriously impressive stuff, when you consider it's all in flash

    Pah. ;)

Regardless, I still think it's pretty impressive even if it is SW rather than flash. SW may have been able to do 3D for ages, but so impressively? I dunno - I'm not that knowledgeable in the field. Kevo?

Dont play it on a P3 celeron with 128meg of ram, slideshow is an optimal guess. :duh: Looks good though, impressive for totally internet based 3d.

That's bloomin' impressive. Ok so shockwave has been able to "do" 3D for a while, but not seen anything quite so advanced before. :jawdrop:

Check out the "settings" section - increase bots, difficulty, CTF and network settings

Anyone set up a proper multiplayer game on it?

Oh it's impressive execution. And Shockwave gets better and better every year (unlike Flash)... ;)

My sig specs produced a silky smooth frame rate however there is a little mouse lag especically with large, quick moves. Very impressive!

Hmm, yes there really is a huge difference between Flash and Shockwave. Shockwave supports hardware acceleration for cripes' sake! When I first read that news item I thought back to a Flash 3D engine I wrote while I was unemployed. It did (does, if I can find it) about 1,000 single-textured polys per second on an average P3 running 512x384, and I thought I was the hottest Flash coder around for writing it. Then I read the article and I thought I'd been seriously outclassed :D

    Nezuji :)

:hehe: Someone needs to optimize - i run it on here, almost exactly the same spec, and it's definately perfectly smooth.

But under the video settings, under renderer it says DirectX 7. . .

Still the best fully on-line FPS I've played. . . Only problem is the elevators are too loud and slow, you can tell when the enemy is approaching. :)
