Dual display - Mac Mini

Is there any way to get a dual display output on a Mac Mini?

Please note, I don't want the same image on both monitors (i.e. a cable splitter), but rather, a spanned desktop.

No, there is only a single DVI output on the Mac Mini. AFAIK, there isn't a cable that will split it into two different outputs.

Maybe something like this would work? A USB graphics adapter? Doesn't have very good resolution or color options, but it's a second desktop...

Fingers crossed, but a solution may be here:

Jeff Freeman
While trying to find some/any way to get a second monitor on a Mac Mini I came across the TRITTON SEE2 USB -> SVGA adapter. It is listed as compatible with Windows 2000/XP only. A Mac compatibility e-mail to the company got me this response:

"Thank you for inquiring into the TRITTON SEE2 product. We are working on drivers for Mac and are trying to roll it out as soon as possible. Realistically it will probably be 60-90 days. We will keep you posted if you are interested."

So, now my question is does anyone have any experience with this adapter on a PC? Or, for that matter, any other Tritton Technologies products?
http://www.trittonsales.com/products/TRIUV100.htm

Just have to wait. I guess contacting Tritton might not be a bad idea as well, as the more requests they get, the more they'll realise that there is a demand for their product in the mac world.

I'm sure someone will come up with a way that'll let you combine two mini's to form a dual display, softraided, dual cpu monster... you could do it over a 100mbit LAN cable with some clever software.

Not quite what you're suggesting but this seems an intriging bit of kit:

Especially when you consider most of us has more than one PC or Mac in the house.

Sounds lovely, if the mac version's good it might tempt me to buy a second mini - I think two mini's on top of each other would look awesome

Somehow you get a splitter for the moniter hookup? Just a idea.

That would be the obvious choice if something like that existed. If you find something like that, it simply will split the video so it displays the same thing on two different screens, not the dual display functionality hacker 8991 requires.

I just wanted to drop in and leave a note for anyone who is interested in Multiplicity. Before you shell out the cash for Stardock's software, I suggest you check out an open source project (as in free) Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net) that actually predates the release of Multiplicity. See if Synergy meets your needs. I'm using it now between my Windows XP machine and my OSX Powerbook.

You can read a bit about it and see my setup in this post:
http://www.ocell.net/blog/2005/02/sy...lici-what.html

Back on topic: I was disappointed, but not surprised, to see that the Mac mini has a single DVI output. I'm looking forward to any solution for getting another video output on the unit.

Yeah, I think that would be the best solution aswell. But I'd got for a firewire connection, alot faster.

But I wouldn't go and buy an extra mac mini for that..
Its a big risk.. I am not sure if it would work anyway..

good luck, post if you find something!

Ahhh I see, so you're suggesting we remove the GPU from our mini's motherboard and replace it with one which supports dual displays. I hadn't thought of that
