Half-Life 2: Lost Coast information Found, ironically

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/05...st_informania/

Technical details behind the new Lost Coast level surface on 3D technology forum. Two quality levels of HDR are expected, depending on the capabilities of your video card.

So, if it's 16bit fixed point instead of floating then instead of being worked out on the fly that floating point enables you to do, Valve has to code in all the specific variables along the levels into the fixed point calculations??

That's a completely wrong way of looking at it isnt it?

The high quality method of HDR will be floating point based, but the low quality will be fixed point by the sounds - hence why I stated that it sounded more like a bloom effect with a fixed point lighting map.

Very interesting... I just wish they wouldn't wait for ATI to get the hardware out to release it. I want to try it

I just want to try the level. The demo looks quite impressive... although I can't figure out for the life of me how they'll just add it into the storyline...

On a similar note, any word as to whether Aftermath will feature HDR as well?

I've not heard anything yet, but I would be very surprised if it wasn't included in Aftermath.

Every once in a while some bit-tech member accidentally kicks a rock, and a few fanboys scurry out. Don't worry, I hear they die quickly when exposed to sunlight.
