There are too many freaking video cards on the market. It's becoming a pain in the ass just to find the best budget card with 15 lines of budget cards.

I dissagree. I like it that more new cards are in the market.

None of those fit in a PCI-E slot.

You're correct... but we've got the following parts, all have four pixel pipelines and two vertex shaders.

    X300 SE HyperMemory, X300 SE, X300, X550 SE, X550, X550 'Ultra', X600, X600 Pro...

I think that is the point that Tulatin is trying to get across. :)

I don't think I'm going to buy another ATI card until they can get their lines straight. At least with nVidia I know what the hell I'm going to buy.

There should be THREE cards per generation. High end, Mid range/budget, and low end and THAT'S IT.

But when your compeditor releases there 3 cards, and they end up slightly faster than your 3 cards, the smart thing to do is release 3 more cards that beat your compeditors 3 cards. It goes back and forth like this. In the end, the consumer is the winner.

Not really, it's more of a bigger turnoff then anything. Most of these cards are at the same price range with a very small difference. I have a small buget especially when it comes to buying new computer parts atm, and it's a pain in the ass to go look for a new video card and there's 20 different cards that all cost the same.

If they all cost the same, then its easy. Pick the best one.

You mean the problem is wich one is the best? Usually a quick look at the specs will tell you.
Ok for example card A does 500mhz, card B does 525, and card C does 550. All the above have same memory and core. Easy to see that card C is most likely your best bet.

why would one manufacturer sell the same cards at different clocks for the same price?

if your talking different manufacturers then you cant just compare specs like that.

Doesnt the x300 have 2 pixel pipes? The IGP version does.

the real one has 4, the igp is just a gimped model. as if the card wasn't gimped enough as is...

That's what i assumed after posting and thinking about it a little (as hard as it was). I mean, they've got to fit the controller for everything else in it and a teeny tiny heatsink too, so 4 was probably non-doable on the FAB process.

yes, the IGP is fabbed on 0.13 micron, so ATI are pushed for die space on the northbridge.
