Whats the server for? You verywell may not even need the server version, unless of course you want to use it's integrated services..
...It couldn't hurt to use Zonealarm or similar I suppose, but 2000's IPSEC does work pretty nicely, I use both on my 2000 pro. machine.. -scoob8000 |

id reccomend tiny personal firewall and use pc anywhere, with that you can access the desktop of the server and control it from your pc, tis quite a nice little prog. Then you dont need a big screen and you can keep ya server box in a cupboard or wardrobe

http://www.openbsd.org
Probably the best unix-like OS to start off with as a firewall, as it comes fairly secure out of the box. I personally use FreeBSD for my routing/firewalling, but it's just personal preference. OpenBSD has gone through a line-by-line code audit (and still is) so it is considered to be one of the most secure OSs available.
