Plexi shaping.. X-Qpack

some where to talk about it.. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthrea...37#post1080737
ok a new case that is done purely for Dreamhack winter 2005 and i must thank www.colorcase.se that provided the case for this

not that big but its a really nice case
usually dont like the small case but "lots" of room in it and still small..

back to buiss...

case a X-Qpack done for matx mobo.. 450w psu , 120mm fan in the rear.. space for 2x cd´s and for 3 hdds..

3 windows so easily to look in too

and now for the fun .. top of and the upper window should be shaped as a face..

something to help out to get the first shape done ..before the "details" btw can be found at ikea..

and after lots of heating with the heatgun and with warm hands, a eeh eeh shape is made.. ;9

and a bit closer

and a "insider look"

things that can be used for shaping ..

and a trash piece to get the right feeling to go on the real piece

and after the "tryout" its time to go to the case itself..

after a wile of heating, really burned hands and painted window this is what it looks like for now ..

kinda sweet

and lets se how this goes

quick question about the quality; I've been looking at one of these for me next rig.

how does it feel durability wise? I have heard complaints that the thing is fragile, concerning the entire case, and the handle.

also, what do you think about the PSU? good/bad/ugly?

I would like to say that is an awesome job there. I would love to learn how to do that. One question though, what thickness of acrylic do you work with? Also any tips on a beginner trying to to do this? Great job on it so far.

this is 4mm acrylic .. i would give as an advise .. try something easy like take a piece and try on make a finger or just warm it up a litlle at a time and try shape it just to get the feeling of it .. like how much you need to warm it .. how fast it will cool and be hard again .. use gloves tho cause it wil get hot even tho you don melt it .. and dont melt it you need to try it to get the picture .. heaten it on both sides .. if it starts to show bubbles you heated to fast on the same spot or to much at the same spot .. its takes a few times before it gets right .. but GL and be sure to show what you make

ok because of some mistakes i had to redo the shape of the face .. the paint i used had a chemical reaction with the acrylics and fxxxxd it up..

the old face ..

after i had redone the face i was thinking "why paint it" its 3d window and looks sweet , but harder to take good pics on ..so we will see if i keep it see thru..
hope you can see how it looks even tho its tough to see on pics.. some small changes are made like the horns in the forehead..

"evil"

and the nice "evil" inside marks to engrave at the sides of the case..

more to come..

Have you tried painting the inside of the plex instead of the outside?

Otherwise, I love your imagination.
