Nice eye-candy, but the backwards compatibility issue is very annoying. Surely it would be possible to use the 360 hardware to run a generic XBox emulator? Or would they be worried that then it could be hijacked to run xbox games on the PC?

I'm sure if the system uses profiles to run games, some older less popular ones will get a little community following to produce profiles for them.

What do they care as long as you bought the game?

I mean, sure, piracy, but you can pirate the thing to play it on the console already, as seeing as they don't profit on the console (well maybe they do, I dunno if the console price drops were overshadowed by hardware costs dropping), it almost makes more sense to just charge $30 for a legal emulator or something.

Screenies look impressive, but probably somewhat less so on a huge TV versus a 4" image. That last one of Q4... dayam! Still, I've longsince given up on consoles, unless I have to get my occasional FFVII fix.

Used to curb piracy - you need to download the specific profiles in order to play. It's annoying considering the game you like playing may not be supported.. ever.

Looks nice, like the thought of custom.. everything, or at least they say. Dont like the online.. everything though

The one thing I don't get is what is the big problem with backwards compatibility, the PS3 and Revolution both have the feature, plus the PS3 does it without the HDD and from both previous systems. Another thing the older playstation consoles used different media for the games.

Because microsoft is a company that doesn't do anything unless it can see a clear profit for doing it. They caught a load of flack for not offering any when they first announced it, so they are now doing a half-arsed version of it that won't bean adding extra hardware at the last minute.

Really? How much money has the Xbox division made Microsoft...?
Backwards compatibility is a problem, but it's not a show-stopper for me: if I want to play old games, I'll use my Xbox - there is no benefit to running them on x360, so why even try?

I think that it is an issue only for a small section of people, for a short period of time while the console is still new. It's not such a huge problem.

Hands up all those people who consistently and currently use their PS2 to play PSX games?

Keeping an old PSOne around isn;t a big deal - it's the size of a large hardback book. Keeping an old XBox around, however...

Hehe...sorry Flibblebot, you picked a bad console, though. IMHO some of the best console games of all time were PSX games. And as for 'easier to keep a PSX around', let's not forget that size isn't the only problem...that's one more set of connectors to your TV. Backwards compatibility is more important than it seems..

PS2 and PSX both used the same a/v and power cables. No need for a second input on the TV.

Question is, Will the 360 be using the same a/v and power cables as the xbox? If so, no big deal. Just need to keep your xbox hanging around...the only problem that comes in is if you use the component a/v...AFAIK those won't work on the regular xbox...will they?

But why have to move any cables around when you can just have it all work by sticking a disc in? If I had to be arsed to do all that, I probably wouldn't do it. Backwards compat cheesecake!

backwards compatibility is a big issue to me, there's some xbox games I would get if I bought a 360 yet I don't currently have one and I'm not gonna pick them one up to play it. Also if your like me you still have an abundance of old PS1 games yet my PS1 went missing or broke many years ago. Every so often we do bust out MGS or crash bandicoot team racing, or what not. It's just a convience thing really
