Presumably there's a release that only allows you to remove the key when the cap is inserted correctly, you have to synthesize this part of the car; post a photo and someone should be able to tell you where to manipulate it.

Put it back in the car???? Soriously though, used to have problems with my dad's 4x4 I used to drive. Used to just take alot of pulling and a bit of cursing. More information would help to identify exacly what's wrong with it, otherwise might as well just get it outta there any way possible, via RTT or Steveo's suggestions.

Before anyone starts on the global warming thing, my dads a farmer and only uses the 4x4 when necissary.

Penetrating fluid, and if that doesnt work, heat the lock and cool the key.

This must be a europe thing, you mean there's a key in the gas cap to take the cap off the car?
Is that to keep people from stealing gas or something?

Yeah, and most have a cover that can't be opened from outside (there's a switch inside the car).

I'd always assumed it was so that you couldn't fill it with the engine running, with both keys on the same ring you have to kill the ignition to open the cap.

cool, I dont think i've ever seen a car that needs a key over here, my car has a button/tab/thing to pull down by the drivers seat to open it.

Yep, so you can't drive off with the filler nozzle still in the car... imagine the damage that would cause.

Yeah, most cars are like that here too, a button or lever in the cab, but some older cars still have a key lock on the outside.

As already said, you're not supposed to take the key out of the cap unless it's in the car, so you'll have to use pliers and bits of metal to fool the cap into thinking it's attached properly.

Not much actually. Gas stations here are required to have self sealing disconnects. Once the hose has been pulled out it self seals and the hose gets to go for a ride. Happened once at the gas station my buddy works at. no spill, but the lady was red in the face.

On mini cooper s models back in the day, the mini was fitted with tanks on the left and the right hand side of the vehicle for extra distance, (one tank is about 32L / 7.5Gallons big / around 300 miles... )

The person before me fit the other fake one, as it looks good, doesnt cost much and makes the car symmetrical, the rear end nice looking, and makes people ask and wonder :D
