I do admire your patience.. Making such a high level detailed masterpiece - I would have lost my patience a million times by now. :)

Thanks guys. :) Yes, you would be correct, I will be putting blue lights in there to simulate the blue glow of the engines. I'll have to test it, but I might have to use white leds with a blue inner cone to get that lighter "electric blue" color. Normal blue leds I think will be too blue.

As for the rest of the case, I will be going with red ccfl's.

Best HongKong has some light-blue leds. -I don't know how good they are...

I agree, white LED's with a very light blue cone/reflector in there, they really aren't that intense. Perhaps some frosted plexi over the openings to give it that diffused look? (and not have the LED's embedded into the plexi but maybe up to an inch behind it, if there is space).

The frosted plexi is a great idea, and would be perfect for the area around the center cone inside the engine pods if they weren't going to be exhaust ports.
Here's a close up of the ref pic:

Maybe I can still do the plexi, and just perforate it so air can pass through.

ahhh dude I've got an idea of how the side panel is going to play out now! I wonder, maybe some plexi around the edge, maybe with 1cm depth, with the led's behind it to give it the flow, and having the middle cut away and shaped to allow the air out..hmmms, I haven't got any image editing software ont his work comp to show you what I mean in pictorial terms.

Great refference pic btw, you'd managed to get hold of some great ones.

it's been a long week of sanding, filling, sanding, and more sanding, but I think all that effort
was worth it. have a look!

Here's a shot of the last pod getting coated with the resin.

big jump in the timeline here, this is after many hours of sanding, bondo filling, and more sanding.

A close up of one of the larger pods. You can see the sanding scratches the 80grit sandpaper left.
I used 80grit to get the basic smooth shape down, then i went back over everything with the orbital
sander and 120grit to sand out those scratches.

Close up of the back end. Here you can see the thickness of the plastic. There are some thin areas,
but for the most part I got a pretty consistent layer all around. I will beef up any thin areas with
    bondo from the inside.

Cut off the 2x4, and foam removed.

Close up of the back end.

Close up of the under side.

And of course I had to throw them on the case to see how they fit, after hitting them with some primer. :)

I still gotta clean them up around the edges, and notch them so they fit better around the back
of the side panels. Then they will sit better and not stick out so far out the back.

Wow. Excellent work as always, Boddaker. Those sidepanels are going to mesh right in with the rest of it. :thumb:

how about a fake flame cone made out of frosted plexi? You could get your airflow and the light diffusion that way.

niiiice bod, they are looking fantastic!

How did you remove the foam out of interest, dig it out or use something to disolve it?

Eitherway it is really coming along (the side panels that is), those engine pods are sweeet!

Thanks for all your feedback guys! (Computerking, I have no idea what the heck you are talking about, but thanks! lol)

Yeah, I forgot to mention that part in my post. To get the foam out, drilled a hole through the enclosed part with a 1" spade bit, then ran a hack saw blade around the edges to loosen it up and just dug it out in chunks. I was thinking about using gasoline to dissolve the foam, but I wasn't sure what that would do to the plastic.

Bod, I don't think you would have had any petrol to dissolve the foam, it looks like CK has been sniffing it all ;)

    LOL!

Thanks Frido. Did some trimming on them last night, getting them to fit better on the side panels. If all goes well, I should have the pods permanently mounted by this weekend. Then I can start on the detailing.
