I just love the last bit of the BBC article:

"He said however due to the row over the video game the cathedral had seen an increase in visits from young people and tourists."

Ah ha, so that's why they were milking it, all about the money.

if any thing the church raised the profile of the game, but not enough for anyone to notice it.

this is such a bad game, i just could imagine the development process.....'what if halo or half life was set around world war 2'...... I do hope there isn't a follow up.

As a Christian, I for one do not support the Church of England at all in this issue. I wish I could find this guy's email address and discuss it with him. I seriously cannot see their reasoning at all on this matter. They were mad that a fictional battle scene took place inside of a cathedral...? Obviously none of them have seen Medal of Honor, or Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or Delta Force Land Warrior, or a dozen other FPS's that have scenes inside cathedrals and churches. Also, there is nothing specifically outrageous about a battle inside of a place of worship. There's a lot of good cover, ones with windows would make a decent choke/ambush site, and it's just a building!

their point of complaint wasn't that it was set in a cathedral but that it was set in their cathedral. Unlike all the other games which uses fictional buildings.
Church can't seem to please anyone about this, damned if they complain about people using their building without asking, damned if they forgive them for it.

I can just imagine the development process of Halo. "What if Half-Life happened in Space and the main character wore a full suit of armor".
