    Hi all,
1 quick question, im thinking about upgranding my CPU on my
    socket AM2 board, i've seen a Athlon FX-62 for £120
and i would like to know whether its a good upgrade option from a X2 3800
i've been looking on toms hardware CPU charts and it beats every other
    AMD CPU paws down,

But i'm not all that knowledgable and any comments are welcome :D
    BTW i've got 2GB of ram, and i'm getting a 3870 from ATI soon:hip:

is your 3800 overclocked? if so what speed it at? as a FX-62 is really just bling factor, ooo iv got unlocked multipliers!

personally i would keep running the 3800 and wait for AMD/ATI new chips and chipsets, then decide what to do from there. AMD wants to be top dog again so just wait for the price wars!!

A HD3870 looks like its performing rather well against nvidia atm, but the 8800GT is seriously quick. mind you my 8800GTS is faster but thats because i have overclocked to hell out of it, i beat most of my friends powered by 8800GTX's. only thing that can beat me at are lan parties is a 88ultra.

    lol

no offence at all but you're 320mb GTS isn't faster than a GTX, 2 of them in SLI are but even highly overclocked a single doesn't get close. you're friends must be running their GTX's under Pentium 3's :)

unless you're only talking about 3dmark06 where you get a nice bump on your score with a Quad processor? for reference you get 15k in 3dmark05 i got over 21k with my GTX, quite the difference eh :) because 05 doesn't factor in the CPU it's all GPU deciding the score.

to the OP an FX-62 aint so grand anymore but it's your money.

An FX-60 or 6000+ will be fine. The price leap for an FX-62 is unsubstantiated.

For 120 notes, you could get a second hand 775 mobo and cpu. Best option in terms of upgrading.

Quite right! Or even a brand new P35 DS3R and an E2160 and still have a few quid change. :thumb:

that combo of gigabyte mobo and conroe is definatly worth while. unless you have an SLI set up...

in short the gigabyte DS3R is a fantastic overclocker, doesn't need alot of adjustments to overclock any CPU. my voltages on my oc are still automatical set by bios, and the backup bios from when a OC fails is just pure genius!
