Gee, I wonder what will happen when they rename the wayward teddy - Pooh. On second thought, perhaps Christopher Robin will arrive shortly to sort things out.

In the meantime, I'm canceling my vacation to Sudan. :miffed:

    :sigh:

Yeah, that's just the mature response we want to read... --Nexxo

Immature, maybe. Biased and ignorant, possibly, but remember I paint all acts of stupidity (and religion) with the same brush. The case mentioned in this thread with the teacher and porn popups is just as bad, if not worse.
Really, you cannot have a charge of blasphemy in a modern justice system, it defies all common sense.

So being associated with a cuddly toy that is loved and adored by children is an insult is it?

Why isn't the teddy bear in prison also. Smells of discrimination this.:D

Some people are over-sensitive and some "justice" systems are stupid, and it's not confined to the Middle East. Though in the West religion doesn't count for anything - it's far more important not to make any innocent remark that could be taken as racist or sexist, or even brand you a paedophile. That could cost you your career.

That's a very good and valid point but unfortunately when a close family friend is put in this ludicrous situation because some... "prophet" is supposedly insulted it is difficult not to react with some passion. I'm sure that Mohammed would laugh this off and tell his followers not to be such assholes.

Yes and has been for several decades. Her daughter Jessica was bridesmaid at my wedding so I do have some strong personal feelings towards this situation. Mostly I am keeping to myself.

Its against the laws of Islam to produce any image of Muhammad, so given that she is living and teaching in a country where the laws of Islam are taken seriously it was pretty daft to allow the kids to call the bear Muhammad and as mookboy says, when in Rome. Having said that I dont think the possible sentence is appropriate, just that she did something foolish.

Stupid law, and Stupid Muslims who are protesting against this.

(Half of my family is Muslim so don't state I'm an anti-muslim)

And the UK Government should actually take some action ffs, and don't stand in the sidelines, like it always does.

So all boys called Muhammed are illegal? Given that the parents have produced this image then they should receive punishment?

This is one of the reasons why religions should be recategorized as mental illnesses. 1000mg of quetiapine a day keeps the hallucinations away.

    Also...

I have nothing against Islam. I have a problem with these governments that think it's okay to base their laws around a religion and essentially force everyone to follow their way of thinking or be subject to inhumane and cruel treatment. I can't say my government is much better though... When will people learn :(.
