Scratch Build – In Progress My Desk MOD

This is my first post to the this site, I have been a a fan of great MOD designs for years and always doing something new to my computer.
I have to say I love this site, it has give me great ideas!!!! I hope this is the correct place for this and you all enjoy it.

I wanted to share some pic's of my computer desk that I built. I think it should fit in with this site.

I had an old School teachers desk that was about 900 lbs. hated it because it was freaking to big.
My monitor sat to low, the drawers were just a place to store crap that i did not need.
So I decided to build one my self.

The total cost was around $100 US.

I really like my new desk. I will post more pic's later. Can't seem to find the other ones.

 

sweet desk, whats it made of? steel and wood?

 

I used 1/2 steel galvanized pipe, for the supports.
For the top and Mon. Stand I used MDF "Medium-density fibreboard".

I painted the top and mon. with killz primer and then glossy black.

I would however suggest some wire management under the desk there......

LOL, yeha I need to do that, but I had to get to my Honey Do List.

if you REALLY wanted to get fancy you could run your cables through the pipes. I did something similar with my corner desk here. its a tiered corner desk made from cheap particle board and aluminum. The aluminum though is nice and hollow on the inside so it was easy to cut "access doors" on every tier. I then just ran the cables I needed to each tier. eventually im going to solder some connection panels to each tier so its easier to connect/disconnect components...


just an idea!

 

Just grab some small PVC downspout square tube and paint it black. Couple $2 hangers from the board store and wires disappear. Easy to cut and form holes where you need. Mine are about 3 inches square. Leftovers from my tackroom. Only shed in the neighborhood with gutters and downspouts.

Good job man! I need to build one of my own but I cannot find the time. Between work and modding and my own "honey do" list I cant take on any more projects. There was a great article floating around here about wire management on a desk using pegboard and stuff, havng everything behind and under the desk but I cannot remember what it was called. Anyone remember?
