Not a bad video - a little too face-slappingly "screw you religious non-evolutionists!" towards the end.

The idea behind the intelligent design idea rather than evolution is called irreducible complexity, and it's the idea that some mechanism found in nature cannot possibly be simplified or have some parts missing and still have a sensible function. There are quite a number of examples of this around, but the problem is that we haven't seen their predecessors to see if it evolved to that state.

Either way, there's no really conclusive proof for intelligent design, and some fairly convincing (if not conclusive) evidence for evolution. One thing I will say, though, is that I can see exactly where the intelligent design people are coming from, and it's no real reason (imho) to berate people so thoroughly for.

Is it just me or does the guy sound like a pedophile?

Maybe it's just because I was really annoyed with the first 90% of the video, and became even more annoyed when they got to the point at the end. Not because I believe in Intelligent Design, because I don't, but because of the 5th grader sarcasm and graphics. Just a really bad presentation.

i just posted this because of the insane amount of sarcasm it has.... that and his other videos are also very very cool....

edit: at least that thread ended nicely....

 

No worries; I wasn't having a go at you. I was attempting to head off the inevitable multi-page debate about evolution/creation. I figure most folks could just go read that thread, as all the basic arguments from both sides have already been addressed.

Actually all examples of 'irreducible complexity' have shown to be wrong by scientists. People that believe in ID I berate because it's as bad as people believing in alchemy or astrology.

 

hmm does this mean ID people are infavor of gene splicing the crap out of everything as acording to them god did it and therfore as I think (not my fave book) the ultimate goal of christianity is to be as powerfull as a god?

Let's face it, humans aren't intelligently designed. For starters, why cross the windpipe and the foodpipe (there's probably a technical term) so we choke so easily? Eyes - could do better. And the willy? Some sort of joke?

True enough, but I still say it's no reason to heavily berate people so completely. I'm not a supporter, I just don't think people deserve to be so hated for it. Then again, the idea of not teaching evolution in schools or similar is tantamount to the same hatred and distrust to me.
