This is some of the greatest Aluminum Channel and Plate work I have seen in along time. Every piece is looks elegant, as well as not looking to bulky and outstandish. Great work, looking forward to more of your high quality work.

I think the support for the PSUs was unneeded, (unless you have some really HUGE powersupplies going in.) The stainless back plate could easily hold standard PSUs without extra brackets.
The screen in the bottom will double as a handy screw catcher.

Yes, you are probably right about the supports but I built these with a different idea in mind
before the back panel had to be re-done.
Haha, yep that grille has caught many screws among other things.

Great stuff, any idea on a rivet count?

With the PSUs could you not tap some holes into the sides to secure them inside the case?
Or maybe rivet D) on some angle and then screw into that?

Just a little diversion from the log for a minute.
I've been using mobile racks in the two previous versions of
the dual case and although I wasn't thinking of using them
here I just couldn't resist the versatility that these things
offer. So at the bare minimum two mobile racks would be
a nice addition.


Obviously there is plenty of room to put a structure to hold
the racks, and it's a fairly simple part, also note the ample space
between the racks, I've removed the stock cooling and the fans below
will keep them at a reasonable temperature.





This structure will fit to the inside of the front panel in the
same way as the HD units do. A slot at the bottom and two
screws at the top.
I should add that every internal part has been made to be easily removed
and replaced, this is to make changing of hardware stress free as well as
allowing me to modify or replace structures as needs change.







The next item I needed to address was cable management.
I hadn't given a lot of thought to how this problem would be
treated. Now I've seen plenty of mods and builds here and
elsewhere that have exquisite and beautiful cable layouts and
I don't for one minute think that I will even come close to them.
But thats OK. What I intend to do is just make things reasonably
tidy and ensure good airflow to the parts that need it.

So the first thing was to install a central column for cables to
run through and be attached to. This was done by riveting
two pieces of U channel together and then attaching them
to the inside PSU support.







Next because of things like the need to have the fans turn on regardless of
weather one or the other or both psu's are running, fan speed controllers, and
various other things that end up with a tangle of wires and connectors, some
junction boxes would be a good idea.

So I cut a small rectangle of plate.



Marked out and drilled where the boxes will go.



And attached this to the cable channels with a small brace.







This worked very well because it takes up very little room and that space would have been wasted anyway.

 

Wow! Very impressed! I was thinking of building a small wooden case for a media centre i have planned, but this... Great work!

I don't really have any idea of how many screws or
rivets have gone into this.
Yes I should clarify., the support structure could have been
thrown out and re-designed to accommodate other ways of
fixing, but it had already been built when I started thinking
about how to secure the psu's. It was easier to remake the
back panel.
