Man this is some crazy stuff. http://thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article927982.ece Two faces, but I'm guessing two small brains in the head? Or can the one kid move both mouths/eyes at the same time (seen one person do it before with a mouth on the side of their head) Feel sorry for the child though.
the people seeing it as a god are the freaks! I don't "mock" religions but seriously, grow up, religion is a nice idea but no kid is going to be "the reincarnation of a god" especially considering the feesable explaination is a parasitic conjoint twin (like in the picture at the bottom of the page) I have nothing against beliefs, but when a newborn child is made to "bless" people and is offered money it is way beyond normal human behaviour (been doing abnormality in psychology as it so happens) edit: the baby has a really hairy forehead
This is what happens when you drink the water you crap in too... Poor kid(s?) is gonna have a rough life.
During your psychology studies I'm sure you will eventually get to the part which evaluates normal human behaviour in its sociocultural and environmental context. This child was not born in a modern Western culture which knows (roughly) about conjoint twins. It was born in a village where most people are not very literate and did not do Science (e.g. origins of the universe and reproductive biology) as part of their school curriculum. So yes, they will try to explain this child from their own framework of knowledge and beliefs. Which is normal, even if you don't agree with the answer they came up with. In any case, these children (because there are two brains in there, just in case people were still wondering) are unlikely to be able to lead a normal life. In a country with little or no social welfare and much stigma, being regarded as deities and given donations by the faithful may enable them to have some meaningful place in the community and give them some reasonable standard of living. So as it turns out, this "abnormal human behaviour" is actually quite functional for all involved.
Millions of people drink dirty water, how come I don't see thousands of babies with two heads? Get real.
Their is a difference between "dirty" and "sewage". Also that was a more tongue in cheek there too, so get internetz'ed.
Yeah, I was trying to think of the word for it, but is a criticism of definitions of abnormality. I remember one case we learnt about was a child in America was referred to a psychiatrist after seeing "thunderbirds" in the sky (not 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) he was from a different culture where these sighting were celebrated, but to the western culture he was just hallucinating. This is going to bug me now, I can't think of the deffinitions or criticisms.
"...the only life forms the most basic single-celled protozoa, and me. Relationships would be difficult, but not impossible."
ethnocentrism! I like that word, but yeah, always a criticism in psychology with most (if not all) theories.
