So this is the new p35.. Overclocking to the max, cheap... but still no SLI. :'(
That's the only thing it lacks..

That's because Nvidia doesn't allow SLI on any other chipsets but it's own ones (propably to boost their sales). :(

interesting as I'm suere that you know in 965 & P35 guises previously the DS3P was just a DS4 minus a few heatsinks ...
why would the cheaper DS3P get a feature that the DS5 doesn't?

That's pretty amazing, it's as if they listened to you and put the sata port problem right and then some :)

DS3P - dunno, Gigabyte love making tons of sku's. Will the DQ6 have much more over this DS5? Apart from bigger heatsinks and 12 phase CPU, I doubt it.

They do listen to us - :D I whinged at Gbt HQ after we published the EP35-DS4 review. In fact we enjoy a close relationship with MSI, Gbt, Asus, DFI and Abit :)

I was invited to TW recently to consult with Gbt on the features/BIOS for their P45 boards. I didn't go because we believe it's a conflict of interest between editorial and manufacturer - while it could make a better board, if we then reviewed it it would effectively guarantee a good result and be unfair to other partners we work with. It's a fine line between being invited out to discus features of current products and get some time with engineers/PMs, to going to HQ to potentially directly change a future product.

Consultations? Pah, just point them at this thread and job's done :p

ninjedit - actually, looking at that again that concept is getting rather dated - AM2? Ye gods! Whatever happened to Roto et al anyhow?

let's see how this stacks up to Abit iP45 Pro.

wonder how are Gigabyte's BIOS fan controller..... can it be compared to Abit?

For Crossfire the x8,x8 is good, but can it be set to x16,x4 or something for use with a RAID card as most P35s can be?

Otherwise, looking good! And a very speedy article!

Given the quality of some of their recent chipsets this might be the only thing that keeps their sales up. It seems Intel's chipsets seem to be the price/performance leader these days and can overclock just as well as any of the nForce chipsets and better depending on the CPU used.

Well, gigabyte boards have been solid in the past and the last few models also oc'd like mad, the DS5 is pretty high up in the range (only DQ6 will have more features), but its an all new chipset that hasnt been released yet, so actual performance and stability remains to be seen.

What`s the difference between X38/48 and P35/45? Both are made by intel right?

P45: 400FSB official. so 500+ FSB should be without problem.
P45: new chipset, supports 8x8x crossfire
P45: last DDR2 Intel mobo, so buy this and then when flogging CPU+Mobo+RAM online will be easier
