what is this cartoon? - answered as "Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still."

once again i ask the infinite knowledge of the bit-tech forum what is the name of something.

i remember seeing this when i was way young....
what i remember seeing from it was: everything in the world was powered by one type of power supply, a cylinder with a sphere inside (red i think.... or was it green....), one of the characters had a lighter that had the same cylinder, cars had bigger cylinders, these cylinders somehow get sick and everything stops.....

that's about it.... i have asked several of my anime freak friends and some of my cartoon freak friends and none of them remember this....

perhaps visionaries? i remember the fact that the vehicles don't work but this green ooze touches the vehicles and they work again

OMG i got a chill down the spine because of this... i remember seeing this as a kid......excellent.... but, this is not the cartoon..... thanks anyway.

PS: they don't make cartoons as good as they used to....

edit: i think it was a anime of sorts... i really can't remember... but it was futuristic.

Reminds me of the Halloween special the Simpson’s did where the home was controlled by a red talking sphere (voiced by Pierce Brosnan)

 

I know exactly what it is you're looking for. It's one of my favourite anime of all time and its called Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still.
The device you drew is called a Shizuma Drive and is a sort of battery that powers everything in the Giant Robo anime.
