starting tomorrow im going to turn my pc off till the 8th and not watch tv. Im going to do this as a tradition, to know that technology doesn't control our lives, well mine at least.. friends think this is crazy and say they can't go one day without their cell heh, i don't even have net on my cell. once a year i'll start doing this, plus i might up it to ten days, if possible.
You are crazy. I might try this for a week in a few weeks time after I have finished this year doing my degree. If not I might find it quite hard to finish the year. Doubt I will last though. Althought im going south of france for two weeks, so unless I take my new 13inch notebook, if I can decide what to get. I will not be using the PC, but I will be watching TV in the evenings. It would probably do my eyes and back a lot of good to give technology a rest for a week though.
i do this for a while every summer, but not at home. i don't think i could. however, spending a week or so out hiking/sailing/whatever with no electronics is nice.
Thanks guys. since after graduating high school and still not yet in college (hard to choose what field) I've been whoring the pc and net too much, and it's taking a toll on my body.. its a good time to socialize more as well, since its getting warmer here. Matticus, thats awesome. never been to France, but i bet its nice. Supertoad, yea its difficult, but if you have something to keep your mind of it, in comparison to how much you "think" you need it you'll do okay.
I do this every night. edit: ok seriously, i often do this for a few days, whenever i get away for a long weekend or holiday, or for the weekend at least, which was most weekends for the last 10 years! Except for the mobile that is. A bit too busy for the long weekends lately tho... i miss my holidays... maybe next year things will be back in order? I don't think i've done a full week without any of those since i was like 18 maybe
I could go without it, but I don't really overuse it to the point where it affects my health or social life, I still go out and spend time with friends(and plenty with a girlfriend when I have one). A lot of people I know would say cell phone is the hardest to go without, for me it is computer, I rarely use my cell phone and all I've watched on TV lately is Cubs games, Spongebob(I'm sure someone will insult me for this one, but I find the show amusing), anime or comedy central stuff, and not even an hour a day on average. As for computer, I use computers all the time at school and home, but I don't let it stop me from going out, it just takes up most of what I do while I'm at home(besides sleep).
i went without pc/tv for about 10 days (guesstimate) over summer didnt miss it at all, did have the radio going thou (would have missed that). Unfortunatly i cant really do this unless its a real holiday from tech, doing a bachelor of it kinda requires computer work
No music, and no TV would be alright for me.. i also have to bump my start date to the 2nd due to a transaction on here on FS section. im going to lock my PCs case and the OS (just in case) and give the key to my bro.
I can go for a while without TV/Internet etc but after a while it is nice to know what's going on in the world. Last summer I was out in Uganda and even there I could fairly regularly go onto the internet (once every couple of days or so).
I could go without it...but the amount of money I'd spend on petrol driving around randomly would be retarded. Still....£10 for 100miles isn't to bad I guess...
Impossible, I can't Even for 1 min. I'm Tech Slave, I admit it That's why I don't study well to get good marks.
Oh god I've got Oakenfold Ready Steady Go playing and this post combined with the music gave me flashbacks to when I was younger. Before I had my own computers and laptop, before my own TV and Playstation. We'd make our own entertainment by doing random things. Driving around, airsoft, golf, bowling, bonfires, BBQs etc. Crap I feel a revival coming on. Roll on the summer!
In your location I would so not post stuff like that on the internet. It's almost certainly an un-American activity and will get you on the list...
I went with all technology, bar the landline (and all the calls were in french to locals!) for a week in france. No car either, just walking + biking around - and we were up a freaking hill !! I also found they don't take credit cards without a driving license so no credit cards either! It was an eye opening trip.
I tried this for 21 days about 9 years ago because apparently on avg it's suppose to take 21 days to form a habit and I wanted to stop watching so much. Was one of the hardest 21 days I'd had because I was getting up at 6am (on my own) to cycle 21 miles to college (on my own), sit in a class full of people that wernt friends, spend lunch (on my own), then cycle home (on my own), then have dinner with family, but soon after go to my room and study (on my own). It was then I realised I relied too much on tv! I nearly cracked up and my head would be repeating things that other people said 100's of times every day. Your head gets full of junk thanks to the media, but when you come back to it you can't beleive how desensitised you became when you did watch it! There are better more fun things to do IMO. however I think tv is a good way of doing something a bit mindless for a while!
