When you say that nothing happened, did you check that the switch on the back of the PSU had turned on fully (wiggle it a bit to see). Check your connections to the PSU and to the mobo, particularly the power switch connection. One way to check that it isn't the power switch on the front of your case is to take off the power switch connections on the mobo and use a screwdriver to make the contact with the pins. This should start the machine. The only other thing I can suggest is to use a different PSU and see if that makes a difference. Andy
for about 12 pounds you can buy an Power-supply tester where you plug the 24pin motherbaord connection into it. The device will give you a green light to say if its working fine, if something is wrong youll get a big red light. You can buy this power-supply tester of ebuyer.com as far as i know. This would help you rule out your powersupply if its broken.
it must be the PSU, but before you buy a new one, try to unplug the PSU cable from the socket and plug it back in. that helped me once.
hmm.... well my PSU is only 620watts. and my 3870x2 was running with fan on 100% speed might not be enough power..some times it was lagging slow. Shielder - thanks mate, i'll try that sunday, since its my day off, just in case i dont flip out i have the whole rest of the day to calm down lol ALtikal - if what Shielder said isn't the problem, im sure to try that next Triplex - i kept trying that... im gonna need a UPS backup anyway now. Grr...last one the battery died. thanks guys, going to get into this,,,,
alrighty, my father tested the PSU. nothing happened, so he said its faulty/dead i bought the PSU from newegg last year around august/sept period i know that its backed by corsairs 5yr warranty, but how do i get a full refund?
as far as i know, you only get a full refund within a small time period. which would be over. contact newegg and see though because i may be wrong. but I would be willing to bet that you have to contact corsair to get a replacement. the 620 corsair is a good psu though, first i've heard a bad thing about it.
yea i know, its weird. he said i surged it or something, i guess thats why i saw a bright flash coming from the back of the PSU your right... i have to go thru Corsair to get a full refund/replacement. im considering getting a 1000HX but i need to get my new APC in the mail soon good ol'e backup
corsair support is slow they told me to test the psu with a paperclip but i already told them its dead..
Yes, fairly std procedure - you connect the green wire/pin on the 20/24pin connector to any black wire/pin with a paperclip while the psu is powered on but out of the case and completely disconnected from the PC. You should then get life from the psu i.e. fan turns on. And if you have a multimeter then you can measure all the psu voltages etc. It's the same procedure as a psu tester does.
Oh, I had this picture of someone having it running and trying to short it out to see if there was a spark, lol. I guess using a multimeter makes a bit more sense. In my defence I was tired when I wrote that.
Corsairs support team sucks ive sent them 2 more messages, about 2mins ago i sent them a full detailed description about how it happened, when it happened and for how long ive been stuck using this ancient ass laptop. i have a computer with no PSU... sitting under my desk just sitting there... im losing my freakin' mind.
